Eye Donation - Share Your Sight
The Department of Surgery of Father
Muller Homoeopathic Medical College organized "EYE DONATION - SHARE YOUR SIGHT", an awareness programme to
commemorate the 'National Eye Donation
fortnight' observed from August 25th to September 8th,
2017. The III BHMS students of the college were involved in making charts on
the importance of donating eyes after death and displayed them in the Father
Muller Homoeopathic Medical College Hospital premises, to create awareness for
the visitors of the Hospital. This programme also included motivational videos
on eye donation and enucleation procedure, Pre-test and Post-test assessment,
Special lecture on corneal blindness and the basics of eye donation and Q &
A session were a part of this programme. Dr Sarita Gonsalves, MBBS, MS, DNB,
Assistant Professor, Department of Ophthalmology, Father Muller Medical College
and Consultant at Father Muller Hospital Thumbe, was the Resource Person for
the talk and the student activity held at the College on 06.09.17. Dr K John
Paul, H.O.D Incharge, Department of Surgery, introduced the resource person and
briefed the necessity of having such activity. Mr Goutham K S, Male Class
Representative, welcomed the resource person with a bouquet as a token of
appreciation. Ms Harshitha Neyyalga, Female Class Representative, expressed her
views on behalf of the class on the usefulness of the session and proposed the
vote of thanks. Eye donor registration forms were distributed to the
participants. Over 42 participants filled the forms to pledge their eyes that
were collected from the Father Muller - Rotary Mangalore North Eye Bank, for
this purpose. Dr Hafis Sherief, Assistant Professor, Department of Surgery, was
instrumental in organizing this programme.
