REPORT ON FREE SPEECH AND HEARING CAMP 22nd, 23rd, 24th September 2016

The field of speech, language pathology and audiology is dedicated to the understanding of normal communication and hearing processes, the application of that knowledge to the identification, treatment and prevention of communication disorders in children and adults.
Speech, language pathologists and audiologists provide a range of services, which includes both assessment and management of communication disorders and also play a major role in public awareness and prevention of these disorders.
In honor of the “International Impaired Week” a Speech and Hearing camp is organized in Father Muller Speech and Hearing College. The inauguration program was held at 9.45 am in the Surgery seminar hall of OPD. Rev. Fr Richard Coelho, Administrator of Father Muller Medical College Hospital and Father Muller College of Speech and Hearing was the President of the function, Dr  Mahesh Bhat HOD Dept of ENT, Prof. Akhilesh P. M. Principal FMCOSH, Sr. Janet CNO, Ms. Darryl Deputy CNO, Ms. Malini OPD Supervisor and the Speech and Hearing Faculty, students of BASLP college and the patients, along with their attendants, were present for the ceremony.
The inauguration began with a prayer song. Prof. Akhilesh P.M. welcomed the gathering. Rev. Fr Richard Coelho inaugurated the camp and addressed the gathering with a message that Speech and Hearing is a noble profession where one renders service to the general public. It is a field where people with speech and hearing problems are empowered to become integral part of the society. He congratulated the staff and students for organizing such a program of creating awareness and providing service. Dr Mahesh Bhat, HOD of ENT department, expressed joy for conducting such a program in which we can help the people to come out of the stigma of using hearing aid. Sr Cynthia proposed the vote of thanks.
31 patients attended the camp on the first day and underwent various tests. The students of BASLP had prepared number of posters, models and charts to educate the camp beneficiaries.
