PSYCON’17 ‘Updates on Managing Psychiatric Emergencies’
The
National Conference, PSYCON’17 was organized by Department of Mental Health
Nursing on 28th February 2017 in Decennial Memorial Conference Hall,
Father Muller Charitable Institutions. The theme of the conference was ‘Updates on Managing Psychiatric
Emergencies’.
The
inauguration of the conference was conducted at 10am. Rev. Fr Rudolph Ravi D’Sa,
Administrator, Father Muller Medical College;, Dr Santhosh Prabhu, Asst Professor, Dept of
Psychiatry, K S Hegde Medical Academy, Deralakatte, the Chief guest; Prof. (Sr) Winnifred D’Souza
Principal, FMCON; Prof. Agnes E J, Organizing Chairperson and Mrs Binsha Pappachan C, Asst Professor and
Organizing Secretary inaugurated the conference
by lighting the lamp. On behalf of the department, Rev. Rudolph Ravi D’Sa
honoured Prof. Chanu Bhattacharya, Dept of Mental Health Nursing by presenting a memento for her 17 years of service in
FMCON.
The
sessions of conference included Medical
emergencies in psychiatry by Dr P V Bhandary, Director, Dr A V Baliga Group
of Institutions, Udupi; Suicide and other
psychiatric emergencies by Dr Safeekh A T, Professor & HOD, Dept of
Psychiatry, FMMC; Emerging strategies in
managing aggression and violence in psychiatry by Dr Ravish Thunga,
Psychiatrist, Manaswini Hospital, Mangalore; Legal aspects in psychiatric emergencies by Dr Mahabalesh Shetty K,
HOD, Dept of Forensic medicine, K S Hegde Medical Academy, Deralakatte and Role of a nurse in managing psychiatric
emergencies by Prof. Chanu Bhattacharya, Dept of Mental Health Nursing,
FMCON.
The
oral and poster presentations of the scientific papers were evaluated by eminent
judges. The prizes were awarded for the best oral and poster presentations at
the valedictory function. The conference came to an end by 5pm. About 300
delegates from the field of psychiatry, nursing, social work and psychology
attended the conference
