The Department of
Community Medicine, Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore organized a CME on
Mental
Health Challenges: Changing Perspectives, Changing Measures
on 11th November 2017 in the Conference Hall of the Father Muller
Medical College Hospital.
The Programme was
inaugurated by the IMA Mangalore branch President, Dr Ramachandra Kamath. Dr Narayana.V welcomed the gathering. Rev. Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director of Father
Muller Charitable Institutions, delivered the Presidential address. The
dignitaries on the dais were Dr K. R Kamath, President IMA Mangalore, Rev. Fr
Richard Coelho, Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, Rev. Fr
Ajith Menezes, Administrator, FMMC, Dr Jayaprakash Alva, Dean of FMMC, Dr Annayya
Kulal, CME Observer and Dr Narayana.V, HOD of Department of Community Medicine,
FMMC. Dr Oliver D’souza gave the vote of
thanks.
The Director, in his
address, opined that the diagnosis and treatment of mental health problems were
difficult than physical ailments which show signs and symptoms. Thus he
reiterated that mental diseases are more
important to be treated than the physical ailments.
The CME had
deliberations on topics like epidemiological profile and preventive measures of
depression and suicide, district mental health programme - D.K. District at a
glance, mental health research and funding, community based rehabilitation,
behavior addiction and stress busters: demystified.
A poster Competition
was also conducted for the under graduates and post graduates of FMCI. The
programme concluded at 5.00 pm.
