Scientia is a scientific programme organized by Department of Medical Laboratory Technology of Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore have been conducting Scientia since 2011. This was the 8^th Annual CME Conducted consecutively from last eight years. Diploma, graduates and Post graduates of Medical Laboratory technology, Biochemistry and Microbiology along with the lab professionals are benefited of this programme.

 Inaugural ceremony of 8^th annual CME- SCIENTIA 2018 on 13^th January at Decennial memorial hall of Knowledge center was started at 9.15am. Rev. Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho was the presiding officer, Dr.Pragna Rao, Dean, Kasturba Medical College Manipal was the chief guest, Rev. Fr. Ajith B Menezes, Administrator FMMC, Rev. Fr Rudolph Ravi D’sa, Administrator FMMCH. Dr. Jayaprakash Alva, Dean of FMMC, Dr.Sumanth D, course coordinator and Organizing Chairman and Mrs Avita Acquilla Lobo, Organizing Secretary were also present on the dais, Dr. Sanjeev Rai, Chief of Medical Services FMCI, and Dr. Padmaja Udaykumar Vice Dean were present among the audience.

Scientific Sessions started soon after the inaugural ceremony. The first talk was from the chief guest Dr.Pragna Rao, Dean, Kasturba Medical College Manipal on “Preanalytical Process flow & Audit”. The second talk was from Dr. Princy Louis Palatty, Professor Department of Pharmacology, FMMC; spoke about “Effective Communication Across the Zones”.

Followed by tea break Dr. Maitreyee D.S Assistant  Professor, Department of Biochemistry, DR. Reshma G. Kini Associate professor, Department of Pathology and Dr. Anup Kumar Shetty. Associate professor, Department of Microbiology ,FMMC Mangalore, spoke on “Sample requirements and preanalyitcal variables”.

Oral Paper Presentation was held after lunch break, Dr. Umashankar T, Professor Department of Pathology , Dr. Meena Dias , Associate professor , Department of Microbiology, and Dr. Avinash S.S Associate Professor, Department of Biochemistry were the judges.

Poster competition was held during lunch break. Mrs, Hilda Pinto, Assistant Professor Microbiology FMMC, Dr.Ramalingareddy Assistant Professor, Biochemistry, FMMC and Dr. Preethi Rai, Assistant Professor, Pathology FMMC were the judges.

Written quiz (individual) was conducted by Dr. Shivashankara AR Associate professor Dept. of Biochemistry FMMC to all interested participants and others were allowed to proceed for lunch. Performance was evaluated in three categories (Diploma /Degree/MSc).

Fourth talk given by Dr.Sumanth D, Associate Professor, Department of Pathology, FMMC, Mangalore spoke about “Use of software in Pre Analytical process”.

This was followed Oral quiz competition “Emerging brains” was started with three participants from each interested colleges which was conducted by Dr. Shivashankara A R Associate professor Dept. of Biochemistry, Dr. Shailaja A Katti, Assistant Professor Dept. of Biochemistry and Dr.Kirana Pailoor Associate Professor Dept of Pathology. There were totally 5 teams from various colleges.

Oral and written feedback was taken by the participants.

Valedictory program: Dr Sumanth D Assistant Professor of Pathology, organizing Chairman and Course co ordinator of Department of MLT, DR. Shivashankara A R, Mrs. Ramya Satheesh, and Mrs, Avita Lobo Organizing Secretary were present on the dais. Prizes were distributed to all the winners and participants. Valedictory program concluded by vote of thanks by Mrs. Ramya Satheesh, Assistant professor Department of Anatomy. Everyone dispersed for tea after National Anthem.
