USIMCON INDIA 2018

USIMCON INDIA 2018, the inaugural International conference on Ultrasound Simulation Education in Healthcare was held at Father Muller Charitable Institutions, Mangalore from 16th to 18th February 2018. The event was organized by Father Muller Simulation and Skill Centre following the great success of their first international conference on healthcare simulation, HPSN INDIA, which was co-hosted in the same venue in December, 2016. Such academic meetings are part of the ongoing promotion of the clinical simulation education portfolio and also to maintain the status of Father Muller Simulation and Skill Centre as an internationally recognized simulation centre.

With the theme of “Minimising healthcare errors through Ultrasound training”, the sessions delivered awareness on the wide scope of use of ultrasound in the clinical setting, with hands-on training and in-depth information about how to train using ultrasound simulators.

The attendees included administrators, researchers, educators, clinicians, nurses, allied professionals and students from the areas of Trauma, Critical Care, Obstetrics, Anaesthesiology, Radiology, Cardiology, Surgical specialities, Emergency and Internal Medicine.

The Organising Committee included faculties from the Father Muller Simulation and Skill Centre and members from Tech4Hc (Macula Healthcare). They were led by Dr Lulu Sherif (Organising    Chairperson), Dr Rithesh Joseph D’Cunha (Organising Secretary) and Mr Tapa Bhattacharyya (Treasurer). The Director of FMCI, Rev. Father Richard A Coelho and the members of the Steering Committee of the Simulation Centre led by Dr Jayaprakash Alva (Dean, FMMC) supervised and supported the Organizing Committee.

The sessions included 4 Pre conference workshops led by renowned international and national faculties which covered four specialties namely Anesthesia, Obstetrics, Emergency and Cardiac. These hands on sessions were performed on world class high-fidelity ultrasound simulators & ultrasound training models from CAE Healthcare, the world leaders in Ultrasound Simulation on 16th February, 2018.

Day one of Conference witnessed the Inaugural ceremony wherein, Rev. Father Richard A Coelho, Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions presided over the function. Ms Amanda Wilford, Clinical Education Manager & Group Leader of International CAE Healthcare Academy was the Guest of Honour. Dr Jayaprakash Alva, Dean of Father Muller Medical College and Chairperson of the Simulation Centre welcomed the gathering. Rev. Father Ravi Rudolf D’Sa, Administrator of the Hospital presented a memento of appreciation to Ms Amanda Wilford, Rev. Father Ajith Menezes, Administrator of the Medical College released the first annual magazine of the centre, MULLERSIM. Dr Lulu Sherif, Organising Chairperson introduced the Guest of Honour and Dr Rithesh Joseph D’ Cunha delivered the Vote of Thanks.

The Highlights of the 2-day Conference conducted on 17th & 18th February were Keynote addresses, guest lectures related to point of care ultrasound training, abstract presentations, a live simulated drill integrating Ultrasound Simulation with Human Patient Simulation, a Sono Quiz with attractive cash prizes for the winners, exhibit hall showcasing CAE simulators and Philips ultrasound machines. Dr Mahesh Mijar (Radiologist) from Father Muller Medical College won the best paper presentation award. Team from St. Johns Medical College won 10,000 Rs for securing first prize in the Sono Quiz & KMC Manipal/ Mangalore won 5000/- Rs as second prize.

An extravagant Banquet was arranged for the delegates on Day 1 of USIMCON INDIA 2018 with a glimpse of the Mangalore Culture & Cuisine at the Father Muller Convention Centre.

The sessions, the workshops and the hospitality of the team of USIMCON INDIA 2018 were well appreciated by the Resource Faculty & delegates.
