Biokinesis : Debate Competition in Biochemistry at FMMC
The Department of
Biochemistry, FMMC conducted “Biokinesisâ€, an intercollegiate debate
competition for I MBBS students on 17th March 2018. Six teams from
various medical colleges of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts participated in the event.
The event was inaugurated by
lighting of the lamp by the judges and participants. Dr Maitreyee D S, Convener of “Biokinesisâ€, welcomed
the gathering and presented the objectives of the debate competition. The judges who are the eminent personalities
in the field of medicine included, Dr Arunachalam R., Professor and Head of
General Medicine at FMMC, Dr Prashanth Vishwanath, Professor and Head of
Biochemistry at JSS Medical College, Mysuru, and Dr Nagesh K R, Professor and
Head of Forensic Medicine at FMMC.
The participating colleges
included FMMC, KMC Mangalore, KMC Manipal, KVG Medical College Sullia, KS Hegde
Medical Academy, Mangalore and AJ Institute of Medical Sciences, Mangalore.
The topics for debate
were, “Automation and artificial intelligence: a boon or bane?â€; “Is
cholesterol a devil ?â€; “Umbilical cord stem cell banking – is it worth it ?â€. Based on the lots picked, each team had to
present the argument “for†or “against†one of the topics. Finally, the team
from KS Hegde Medical Academy Mangalore were judged as the best team –“The
Armament†and Ms Bhumika Choudhary from KMC Manipal was adjudged as the
best speaker – “The Crusaderâ€.
In the valedictory
programme, Rev.Fr Ajith Menezes, the Administrator of FMMC and Dr Jayaprakash
Alva, Dean of FMMC addressed the gathering and congratulated the “Team
Biochemistry†of FMMC for the very good organization of “Biokinesis†under the
leadership of Dr Malathi M., Professor and Head. The judges were honoured and prizes to winners and certificates of
participation for intercollegiate as well as FMMC level “Biokinesis†were
distributed by Rev. Fr Ajith Menezes, Dr Jayaprakash Alva and Dr Malathi M.
Dr Anurag Yadav proposed vote
of thanks. Dr Shailaja Katti and Dr
Ramlingareddy were the Masters of Ceremony.
