Microbiology CME 2018 and First Quarterly Meet of IAMM-KC held
The Department of
Microbiology of Father Muller Medical
College organized Microbiology CME - 2018 & First Quarterly meet of Indian
Association of Medical Microbiologists- Karnataka Chapter, themed 'Gastrointestinal infections - An update' on
28 July 2018 in the Knowledge Centre Hall
of FMMC. 75 participants including Microbiologists, Clinicians, postgraduate
students from Karnataka and Kerala States were the beneficiaries of this
programme.
The gastrointestinal
tract is colonized by diverse microbial community & infections can be
caused by several microbes. This CME was aimed to open a common platform for
microbiologists and clinicians, to join hands to enrich and share the knowledge
on recent advances in GI infections.
The programme commenced
with an invocation followed by lamp lighting by the esteemed dignitaries.
Ms Hilda Pinto, Asst.
Professor, Department of Microbiology, Father Muller Medical College introduced
the dignitaries and welcomed the gathering.
The Inaugural Ceremony
was presided over by Dr Jayaprakash Alva, Dean of Father Muller Medical
College. Chief Guest, Dr Shantha Dutta, Scientist and Director of The National
Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases, Kolkata and Guest of Honour, Dr
Ajanta G.S, President of the Indian Association of Medical
Microbiologists-Karnataka Chapter were also present on the dais.
Dr Rekha Boloor,
Professor and Head of the Department, Microbiology, Father Muller Medical
College rendered the Vote of Thanks.
The first scientific
session was based on “Recent Advances in the Intestinal viral Infections†by Dr
Arun Kumar G, Professor and Head, Department of Virology and Research KMC,
Manipal. The second talk was given by Dr Shanta Dutta, Scientist and Director,
National Institute of Cholera & Enteric Diseases, Kolkata on “Enteric
Vaccines-Current Challenges and Future Scopeâ€.
The third session was
given by Dr Mamatha Ballal, Professor of Microbiology & Enteric Diseases,
Division in Charge, KMC, Manipal, on “Translational Advances in Parasitic
Infections of the GITâ€, following which a Poster presentation was held during
the lunch break. The poster competition was judged by Dr Vidyalakshmi,
Professor and Head of the Department of Microbiology, KMC, Mangalore and Dr
Ajanta G.S, President of the Indian Association of Medical
Microbiologists-Karnataka Chapter.
Post-lunch break, Dr
Shivaprasad B, Consultant Gastroenterologist of A.J. Hospital & Research
Centre, Mangalore, spoke on “Antibiotic-associated diarrhoeaâ€.
Valedictory
Programme:

Chapter and Dr Beena Antony, Professor, Department of Microbiology, Father
Muller Medical College were present on the dais. Prizes were distributed to all
the winners and participants. Mr Vignesh Shetty and Sherin Justin were the
first and second prize winners for poster presentation, respectively. The
valedictory program concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms Hilda Pinto, Assistant
Professor, Department of Microbiology, Father Muller Medical College.
