CME on  Trends in Carcinoma Breast and Reconstruction

The department of Plastic Surgery of Father Muller Medical College organized a CME on ‘Trends in Carcinoma Breast and Reconstruction’ on 1 September 2018 at the Conference Hall. A total of 70 participants including faculties, doctors, and PG residents were the beneficiaries of this programme. The CME was the first of its kind at the hospital, where eminent personalities with vast knowledge and rich experiences in the field were present as resource persons.

Cancer breast is the second leading cause of cancer related deaths among young women. It is the responsibility of the doctors to detect the cancer in an early stage, treat surgically and reconstruct in the best possible way to give a better quality of life and social acceptance .This CME was aimed to open a common platform for plastic surgeons and doctors, to join hands to enrich and share the knowledge on the trends in Carcinoma Breast and Reconstruction.

The inaugural programme commenced with an invocation followed by lamp lighting by the esteemed dignitaries.

Dr Aravind Rao, Organizing Chairperson and Head of department of Plastic Surgery, FMMC, introduced the resource persons and welcomed the gathering.

On this occasion, Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director of FMMC, appreciated the initiative taken by the department in creating awareness of the changing trends in breast cancer. These awareness talks will be of more benefit to the public in detecting early stages of cancer which could also prolong the life of an individual due to the advanced medical treatment facilities available today, he said.

Fr Ajit B. Menezes, Administrator, FMMC, Fr Rudolph Ravi D'Sa, Administrator, FMMCH, Dr Jayaprakash Alva, Dean, FMMC, Dr UdayKumar, MS were present on this occasion.

The first scientific session was based on ‘Early Carcinoma Breast’ by Dr Clement R.S. D' Souza, Professor, Dept of Surgery, FMMC. The second talk was given by Dr Rohan Gatty, Professor, Dept of Oncosurgery, FMMC on ‘Advance CA.Breast’.

The third session was given by Dr Aravind Rao, Associate Professor, Dpt of Plastic Surgery, FMMC on ‘Lattisimus Dorsi Flap’ .Following which, Dr Sanath Bhandary, delivered the fourth session on ‘Tram Flap’ and the fifth session was given by Dr Dinesh Kadam Professor and Head of Department of Plastic Surgery ,A.J. Hospital and Research Centre on ‘Free Flap and Implants’.

Later a PG quiz was organized and the winners were awarded with cash prizes.

Dr Monalisa D’Souza, compered the programme. Dr Ashish, Asst Professor, Plastic Surgery rendered the vote of thanks.
