Dr G Shankar Family Trust, donates 45 lacs towards dialysis and cancer patients of FMMCH

The most generous philanthropist, Dr G Shankar, on the occasion of his birthday, donated Rupees 45 lacs towards dialysis and cancer patients, at Father Muller Medical College Hospital, Kankanady, Mangaluru. The beneficiaries included, a total of 95 dialysis and 60 cancer patients, who are undergoing treatment at Father Muller Medical College Hospital.

Handing over the amount to the beneficiaries, Dr G Shankar stated, ‘Every year on my birthday, I have been sharing a part of my wealth with the needy. The Christian missionaries, who ventured into Mangalore and Udupi coast, pursued the idea of serving the general public, through education and health care. They were the true examples of dedication towards the society. And I follow their example, harnessing the same.

 He further advised the patients to remain strong amidst trials. He said, ’Death may come in any form. It might come anytime. Father Muller has been known for its excellent health care services. You have doctors and other experts, who will enable you to confront your life trials. Trust in God’.

‘Over Rs 2 crores will be distributed in various hospitals of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada and more than 1000 people will be benefitting from this,’ he added.

Fr Ajith B. Menezes, Administrator, Father Muller Medical College, said, today the Catholic Church, is celebrating the feast of St Francis of Assisi, who responded to God’s vision, surrendered everything and began serving the poor. And on this auspicious occasion, Dr G Shankar has been exemplary to the society, by serving the poor. We are grateful to the almighty, for giving G Shankar, who has been a role model in serving the poor. Our blessings multifold, when we start giving and this we have witnessed in Dr G Shankar’s life, he added.

Dr Rohan Gatty, Head of Surgical Oncology, appreciating the service-mindedness of Dr G Shankar said, ‘He is the one who gives without any expectations’. He advised the patients, not to give up hope and to always remain strong at all circumstances. Further, he also spoke words of encouragement to the patients, who were present.

Jeevaraju, a beneficiary, expressed his gratitude towards the trust and the institution.

David V Sequeira, Public Relations Officer, hosted the program. Dr Manjunath, Professor, Dialysis Department, proposed the vote of thanks.

Chief Nursing Officer, Sr Janet, Medical Superintendent, Dr Uday Kumar, doctors and nurses from Oncology and Dialysis department, were present on the occasion.
