The 1st National Cardiac Emergency Conference,
“CECON 2018†was organized by the department of cardiology in association with
department of medicine of Father Muller Medical College on November 10 and 11
at Father Muller Medical College Hospital, Mangalore. For the first time in the history of India, cardiac
simulation is being used to demonstrate cardiac emergencies using cardiac
manicure at “CECON 2018â€. The inaugural ceremony of “CECON 2018†was held on
Saturday, November 10 at 12:15 pm at Decennial Memorial Hall. The cardiac emergency is the critical area in the
medical sciences. CECON 2018 is a unique conference where cardiac emergency
management is critically analyzed by the doyen in the field. Unlike regular
conferences, CECON 2018, a scientific programme is based on real-time clinical
case-based discussion and cardiac simulation session for management of cardiac
emergencies, postgraduate cardiac teaching and live based ECG quiz. More than 600 representatives from all over India
attended the conference. Eminent International and National Speakers from the
field of Cardiology and Medicine were present as resource persons for the
various current topics. This conference is most relevant since cardiovascular
disease, is the world’s number one killer. The conference will cover an array
of cardiac emergencies including heart attack, stroke and other heart-related
diseases. Dr H Prabhakar, Organizing Secretary extended a warm
welcome to the gathering. The programme commenced by lighting the lamp by the
esteemed guests. Chief Guest, Dr S Sachhidanand, Hon’ble
Vice-Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka said,â€
Today the mortality rates are higher due to the presence of non-communicable
diseases rather than the communicable disease, which were witnessed earlier.
This has been possible due to the improvement of sanitation and cleanliness. We
are still fighting against the prevalence of communicable diseases; however,
the onus is currently moved towards non-communicable diseasesâ€. “Today the working conditions are sedentary in
nature which revolves around table oriented work. This increases the risk
factors. Stress work induces diabetes along with similar add-ons. And these
factors contribute to cardiac problems. Cardiac arrests are higher than deaths
caused due to road traffic injuries and other diseases like cancer. As
cardiologists and physicians, it is imperative that we think of cardiac
emergencies also. Reports of cardiac arrest among adolescents are frequently
been published in dailies. According to the Cardiologists, the number of
youngsters experiencing Myocardial Infarction is on a higher note, and it is a
high time that we investigate the factors that are responsible for the disease.
Emergencies do happen at any point of time and ignorance in such cases in
condemnable. It is the need of the hour that everyone needs to be aware of the
minimum basic life support system. As doctors, it is imperative that we know
how to overcome such situations. The ambulance drivers, paramedics and traffic
police need to know the BLS procedureâ€, he said. “Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences has
embarked upon a programme called Jeeva Raksha, where faculties and interns are
trained with the BLS procedure. Father Mullers was the first institute to organize
a simulation conference. Each time I visit this institute I get an opportunity
to learn something new and this institution had inspired me to set up a new
state-of-the-art simulation lab at Bangalore Medical College and Research
Institute.†He concluded his speech by saying, â€Each one teach
oneâ€. Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho in his presidential
address said,†As we age we tend to become prey to numerous diseases, which can
be reversed if we adopt a healthy lifestyle. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
training is beneficial in saving lives. Father Muller Simulation and Skill
centre was the first one to be set up in the state with more than 40 simulation
trainers who train other professionals around the yearâ€. Fr Ajith B.Menezes, Administrator, Father Muller
