Ignite 2K19 Annual Athletic Meet of Father Muller School and College of Nursing held
Ignite 2K19 Burst into Flame, Annual Athletic Meet of Father Muller School and College of Nursing was held on 12 January 2019 at Father Muller Stadium.
Ms Venizeia Annie Carlo, National sub-junior power lifter was the chief guest and inaugurated the athletic meet open by hoisting the flag and releasing the balloons. In her speech, she applauded the initiative taken by the department in organising the event which particularly reminds the students that college life isnâ€™t just about academics, but something way beyond. "Sport is a part of your college life. Your venture into sports should not stop when you leave college. When todayâ€™s youth seem to be engrossed in social media, we need to strike a balance between academic life and social lifeâ€, she said.
â€œYou should feel the fresh air as you kick a football and savour the saltiness of your sweat as you make the three-pointer shot in basketball. Look for opportunities and learn something new. Along with your academics give importance to extracurricular activities. Study with an open mind, work with a productive mindset and get into sports to release those toxins and enjoy lifeâ€, she added.
Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director FMCI, presided over the programme and said, â€œPlaying sports is a great way to relieve stress induced by various factors like education, mobiles etc. It helps one to gain a sound mind and a healthy body. Today's generation involves themselves more in indoor activities. Young students need to exercise, remain healthy and have a stress free life.â€ He stressed the need of having healthy competition in all spheres of life." Real sportsmanship involves in playing a game fairly and accepting everything that befalls on the line", he said.
The sports day began with the march past and the chief guest took the salute.
Students of second-year GNM invoked the presence of Almighty through a prayer song. Eami Joseph, third-year B.Sc Nursing student welcomed the gathering.
Meanwhile, the Torch relay was taken around the stadium by the sports representatives following which Vinitha Dâ€™Souza, fourth-year B.Sc nursing student administered the oath on behalf of all the students.
The college band headed by Vijay Olivera gave a stunning performance of their skills and the majorette exhibited her baton twirling skills.
Prof Victoria Dâ€™Almeida, Vice Principal, FMCON, Ms Jasmine Sarita Vas, Principal, FMSON, Ms Sushma, Physical education Instructor, FMCON, Mr Channakeshava, Mr Chandrashekhar, Physical education Instructor of FMCI, Mr Abin Kuriakose, Sports committee coordinator, Heads of various departments, staff and students were present.
The valedictory program was held on the same day at 4.00pm and Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director, FMCI was the chief guest.
The winners of various athletic events and games were awarded medals and certificates. The overall championship was won by the â€˜Andromedaâ€™ group of Father Muller College of Nursing. The individual championship was bagged by Ramya (III year BSc Nursing) Lenisha (II year Bsc) and Santhosh II year (PBBSc). The programme came to an end by 4:30 pm.
Zeena Dâ€™Souza, fourth-year B.Sc Nursing compered the programme. Laquisha, first-year GNM rendered the vote of thanks.
