Report on Graduation Ceremony 2019

The Graduation Ceremony of Father Muller Medical College, Allied Health Sciences and Father Muller College of Speech and Hearing  was held on 23th Feburuary 2019. The day began with a Thanksgiving Mass at 8.00 am where the Bishop of Mangalore Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha was the main celebrant.

The Graduation Ceremony of medical teaching units of FMCI was held at 2.30 pm in the Father Muller Convention Centre.  The program commenced with the procession of Graduands from Father Muller Medical College, College of Speech and Hearing, and Allied Health Sciences who were accompanied by the teaching faculty and the dignitaries.  The dignitaries were given a traditional Indian style welcome with Poornakumbha and Aarathi which was followed by invocation.  

Rev. Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director of the Institutions welcomed the gathering and  Dr J.P. Alva, Dean, Father Muller Medical College presented the annual report of the Medical College and Prof. Akhilesh P.M. presented the annual report of Father Muller College (of Speech and Hearing).   The Chief Guest of the function was Prof. Dr Zabidi AM Hussin, Director of Research and Innovation at MAHSA University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.   Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangaluru Diocese  & President of Father Muller Charitable Institutions presided over the function.

All the graduates were felicitated with a song by the Medical College students. This was followed by the Graduation Ceremony during which 378 graduands of MBBS courses, BASLP,  BPT, B.Sc. MLT, MIT, RT, MPT, M.Sc. MLT & MHA, 2nd  batch of Super Specialist M.Ch. (Urology) & Ph.D. Scholars were presented with Certificates and Medals. 

The Chief Guest Dr Prof Zabidi Hussin in his inspiring Graduation Address,   congratulated all the Graduates and said that today is a historic day for them,  who have been shaped, articulated and chiselled to perfection.    They owe their success to the Institutions, the teachers, parents and well-wishers.   He asked all the graduates to carry the Legacy of Fr Muller forward by serving the needy with love and care.

During the occasion all the students who have excelled in academics as well as various sports, were awarded prizes.   Meritorious graduates and students were presented with awards and prizes for their achievements in academics, sports & co-curricular activities during the year.    FMCI President’s Gold Medal for the Best Outgoing MBBS Graduate for the year 2018 was awarded to Dr Thomas George.

Dr Thomas George delivered the response on behalf of all the Graduates expressing his joy and gratitude. 

In his presidential address, the Bishop of Mangalore Diocese called upon the graduates to take inspiration from the founder Rev. Fr Augustus Muller and to be ever ready to serve the sick and needy always.   He also stressed upon how doctors should be ready to serve the patients round the clock.  They should develop a mindset of getting satisfaction by serving the patients,  to take initiatives towards instilling confidence among the patients, so the patients will get healed faster.   This would eventually bring a sense of fulfillment for the doctors.   He called upon all of them to work hard with dedication, commitment and sincerity and serve the community through their profession.   He also wished them success in their future endeavours.

The Chief Guest Prof.  Zabidi Hussin, the Director of Research and Innovation at MAHSA University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia was felicitated.

Rev. Fr Ajith B. Menezes, Administrator, FMMC  proposed the vote of thanks.  Around two thousand people consisting of graduates, post graduates, staff, parents, alumni, guests and students witnessed this solemn celebration.  Graduation refreshments was served to all after the program.
