VANAMAHOTSAVA celebrations at Father Muller Charitable Institutions

Father Muller Charitable Institutions, along with its NSS unit members celebrated Vanamahotsava by organizing a massive tree planting drive on Saturday 06 July 2019 at Father Muller Academy Hall. The theme for this year’s celebration was “Green Drive”.

Dr Ramya Satheesh, NSS Co-ordinator, FMMC extended a cordial welcome to the gathering and highlighted the importance of the day.

The Chief Guest for the day, Rev. Fr Richard A. Coelho, Director of the Father Muller Charitable Institutions spoke on the concept of SAVE EARTH BY GOING GREEN. He mentioned, on how nature has changed his way of living. He himself has practiced the concept of terrace gardening and this has been a great stress-buster. He was proud to say that the campus was already bearing fruits of previous years’ vanamahotsava.  He appreciated the efforts put in by all to make this event possible. He also urged everyone to treat the mother earth in a way that would be feasible for the younger generations to live in.

The Father Muller College of Nursing played a video clip of the earlier years’ vanamahotsava. The clip showed the growth of the saplings planted then to its fruit bearings today. A variety of yields and the efforts put in by the NSS unit of the nursing college were showcased. The NSS unit of FMCON was the only unit who cared for the previously planted saplings. For this the Director gave a token of appreciation to the NSS coordinator of FMCON.

The invitees were honored with a memento in the form of a sapling as a symbolic representation of celebrating the event.

To mark the celebration, Sr Sylvia, representing Pharmacy, Sr Ellen Marie, AC, representing housekeeping department, Mr Chandrasekhar, Physical Education department, Dr Sudheer Prabhu, Community Medicine department, Dr Prakash Shetty, Anatomy department were given saplings to be planted in the campus.

The final message for the day before their walk towards the planting areas was ‘be like a tree, stay grounded. Connect with your roots, turn a new leaf, bend before you break, enjoy your unique natural beauty, keep growing’ which was philosophical message to all gathered.

Administrator of Father Muller Medical College Hospital Fr  Rudolph Ravi D ’Sa, Administrator of Father Muller Medical College  Fr Ajith Menezes, Assistant Administrator of Father Muller Medical College Hospital, Fr  Nelson Pais, Dean of  Father Muller Medical College, Dr J P Alva, Vice Dean, Father Muller Medical College Dr Padmaja,  were the other dignitaries present on the occasion. Sheryl Fernandes compered the event.
