NEEDLE STICK INJURY AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

The Hospital Infection Control team of Father Muller Medical College Hospital in collaboration with Becton Dickinson India Pvt Ltd had organised a Needle stick injury awareness campaign.

 The campaign entitled “Say No to Sticks” was launched at Research seminar hall on 30 August 2018 at 3.30pm.  Nursing Superintendents, Assistant Nursing Superintendents, In-charges from all the wards were present for the campaign. Dr Thomas, Hospital Infection Control Officer introduced the speaker to the audience.  Dr Bala Murali , Clinical Resource Consultant, Becton Dickinson India Pvt Ltd briefed about the campaign.

Initially, the programme began by conducting a preliminary written quiz round for all the Health Care Workers in their respective wards. 15 staff’s were selected for the finale round based on their scores in the written quiz. An audit was conducted in the wards by the HICN’s on all safe practices involved in the use of needle. NICU was selected as the best ward based on the results of this audit.

The final round of the quiz was held on 28 September from 1.30 to 3.30 pm. All the selected candidates participated enthusiastically in the quiz.

Closing Ceremony

The closing ceremony of “Say No to Sticks” awareness campaign was held on 28 September, 2018 at 3.30pm in the Conference hall.

The programme began with an invocation in the form of an audio visual song.

Sr Jacinta ,Principal, FMCON , Dr Bala Murali , Clinical Resource Consultant, Becton Dickinson India Pvt Ltd, Becton Dickinson personnel, Dr Thomas, Hospital Infection Control Officer, Nursing Superintendents, Assistant Nursing Superintendents, Ward In-charges and staff nurses were present on this occasion.

Dr Bala Murali appreciated the positive response received from the staff and hospital management in successfully conducting the campaign. He further applauded the enthusiasm and dedication of the HIC team of FMMC.

Dr Thomas, HIC Officer, highlighted the significance of conducting ‘Say No to Sticks’ awareness campaign. He congratulated the staff, students of FMMC who actively involved themselves in making the campaign a big success.

5 teams comprising of 15 members each participated in the quiz. Elza Josphine - Main OT, Sajina Mol- Q Ward, Rintu Thomas- M Ward (First Prize),  Anisha Alvita DSilva- SH II, Mohammed Shafeeq- Onco OT, Benilda Saldhana- Y Male, (Second Prize) emerged as winners.The best complaiant award was bagged by the NICU unit.

Sr Jacintha Dsouza handed over the prizes and certificates to winners of the quiz competition.

Later, Ms Anitha Roshni D’ Souza presented a report on the NSI campaign.

Ms Lenny Maria Netto, winning ward incharge spoke on the implementation procedures taken during the entire campaign.

Ms Rita and Ms Eliza compered the programme.
