Visit of Parliamentary Health Committee from Uganda to Father Muller Charitable Institutions

The Parliamentary Health Committee of Uganda and its team visited Father Muller Charitable Institutions on 15 October 2018.

The team along with the Chairperson, Hon. Bukenya Michael, MP, Bukuya County NRM Leader of Delegation, with other members Hon. Baseke Fred Ntenjeru South IND, Hon. Nayebale Sylvia DWR, Gomba NRM, Hon. Ssembatya Edward Katikamu South NRM, Hon. Rwakimari Beatrice DWR, Ntungamu NRM and Bwire Webby, Department of Clerks, Staff Clerk Assistant had an interaction with the Director and the Management Committee Members.

Rev. Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director, FMCI welcomed the team to Father Mullers.  Later the M.C. Members – Rev. Fr Rudolph Ravi D’Sa, Administrator, FMMCH Rev. Fr Ajith B. Menezes, Administrator, FMMC, Dr J.P. Alva, Dean, Dr B. Sanjeev Rai, CMS, Dr Udaykumar, Medical Superintendent, Dr Padmaja Udaykumar, Vice-Dean, Sr Jacinta, Principal, FMCON, REV. Fr Vincent Saldhana, Administrator, FMHMC, Dr Shiva Prasad K, Principal, FMHMC, Dr Prabhu Kiran, Vice Principal, FMHMC introduced themselves to the team.

The Uganda team also introduced themselves and the constituency they represent in Uganda.

Further, the team gave a short presentation highlighting their vision and mission.

India has been identified as a better case study in the areas of; Homeopathy, Acupuncture, Naturopathy, Siddha, Ayurveda and Unani among other. In Particular, Father Muller Homeopathic Medical College was identified as a contact and host Institution to the delegation capable of providing key information; and linking the visiting team with relevant stakeholders for meetings during the visit.

The main purpose of their visit is to enrich the analysis, the Committee has scheduled to undertake a study visit to India from 14– 19 October 2018, to benchmark on the best practices in regulating and managing the Indigenous and Complementary Medicine subsector.

 

The objectives of the trip include understanding;

a) The legal framework governing the Indigenous and Complementary Medicine

subsector;

b) The Governance structure of the Indigenous and Complementary Medicine

practitioners;

c) Categorizations and Standardization issues;

d) Areas of convergence and integration of Indigenous and Complementary

Medicine and Modern Medicine practices;

e) The progress in research and development of the Indigenous and

Complementary Medicine subsector and its contribution to the economy;

f) Basic requirements for Training and Qualifications for the practitioners;

g) How to establish contacts and networks between the Ministry of AYUSH, India,

Committee on Health and the Ministry of Health for future collaborations. 

The team visited Father Muller Simulation and Skills centre, Father Muller Medical College, Father Muller School of Nursing, Father Muller College of Nursing, Father Muller College of Speech and Hearing, Father Muller Research Centre, Father Muller Research Lab, Father Muller Indoor stadium and Gymnasium. They will be further visiting Father Muller Homeopathic Medical College and Hospital. They will proceed with their stay at the campus till 19 October 2018.
