A Continuing Nursing
Education on Drug and Food Interaction was organized on Saturday, 19th January
2019 by the Continuing Nursing Education Cell of the Nursing Service
Department. Dr Nicole Rosita Pereira,

Medical College was the speaker of the session. Dr Nicole stressed that drug-food interactions are
important aspects of treatment among hospitalized patients. Food may alter the
effects of drugs by interfering with pharmacokinetic such as absorption,
metabolism and excretion. Pharmacodynamic mechanisms also play a critical role
in drug food interactions by altering drug effects.
During the session, she also enlightened the nurses on the type of food that
interfere with the action of common drugs prescribed to patients.
