Seminar on Freedom from Lifestyle Diseases for Priests and Religious sisters and brothers of the Mangalore Diocese

Enjoying good health is a blessing. Millions of people follow an unhealthy lifestyle. Every individual has a responsibility towards his/her health. It requires commitment. Keeping the objective in mind, the Nursing Service Department in association with the Health Commission of the Mangalore Diocese organised a Seminar on Freedom from Lifestyle Diseases for Priests and Religious sisters and brothers of the Mangalore Diocese on 9th May 2019. The registration to the seminar was free. The health check up and investigations like complete blood count, fasting blood sugar and lipid profile was tested free of cost. 

The blood collection counter was arranged at the laboratory in Utility Building opened at 7 a.m. followed by breakfast at the food court. At 8:30 a.m. the seminar was inaugurated. The inauguration of the seminar began at 7:30 with a prayer song. Rev. Fr Rudolph Ravi D'Sa, Administrator of Father Muller Medical College Hospital and Convener of the Health Commission of the Mangalore Diocese  welcomed the audience. Rev. Fr Richard Coelho delivered that presidential address and Rev Sr Janet D'Souza proposed the vote of thanks. There were 110 participants comprising of priests and religious sisters. The members of the Health Commission of the Mangalore Diocese also attended the inaugural programme.   

The talks at the seminar were informative. The sessions were Heart Fact: Blood pressure by Dr Glenn Austin Fernandes, Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine; Are you Diabetic? Let's find out by Dr Sudeep K, Associate Professor in the Department of Endocrinology and Cancers: Diagnosis, Treatment and Prevention was dealt by Dr Nishitha Shetty, Associate Professor at the department of Medical Oncology, for women  and for men by Dr Rohan Chandra Gatty, Head of Surgical Oncology. There was a short play staged by the nurses on Lifestyle Diseases

After lunch, health check up counters were arranged. Dr Glenn Austin Fernandes, Dr Rohit Pinto and Dr Sharol Ashma Menezes were available at the consultation desks until 3:30 pm.
