Forensic Medicine & Toxicology

Overview

The department was established along with the college in the year 1985. Forensic medicine and toxicology is the subject dealt for second year students. At the end of II BHMS academic session, they appear for RGUHS examinations. The students get training in various legal procedures, professional ethics and etiquette, mechanical injuries, post-mortem changes, toxicology, etc..

Practicals include identification of bones, dactylography, age estimation, x-ray, identification of toxicology specimens and poisons, etc...

Students witness autopsy regularly in Father Muller medical college mortuary conducted by the Forensic department of Father Muller medical college as per the guidelines of CCH.

The Department has a well established Museum consisting Charts, models, weapons, Bones, Male & Female skeleton and over 100 specimens of Toxicology. Also a Demonstration room is attached that can accommodate with the capacity of 35 where in medico legal charts are displayed.

The laboratory is well equipped with a departmental library for reference as per the CCH guidelines

Museum

The department has well equipped museum.  Various charts, specimen, food grains of nutritive importance are kept in the museum.  In the demonstration room many health education charts and boards are displayed.

Medical Camps

The department is organizing medical camps, school health check up programme, Health education programme periodically in collaboration with various NGO’S.  for the academic year 2016, a new mobile center is added. As an outreach center, one village by name Kotekar has been adopted by Department of Community Medicine.

Appointed one Medico Social worker to aid the outreach programmes.
