CONTINUING SURGICAL EDUCATION ON “BREAST CANCER UPDATE”

Department of General Surgery organized Continuing Surgical Education 2017, on Breast Cancer Update on 24th February 2017.  The inaugural programme was presided over by Rev. Fr Patrick Rodrigues, Director, Father Muller Charitable Institutions.  Dr M. Vijaya Kumar, Honorable Vice Chancellor of Yenepoya University was the Chief Guest.  The programme began with the prayer song. Dr Leo F. Tauro, Professor & HOD and Organizing Chairman of CSE 2017 delivered the welcome address.  Dr Clement R.S. D’Souza, Professor & Unit Head introduced the Chief Guest.    

In his inaugural address, Dr M. Vijaya Kumar stressed on the importance of CSE in updating the knowledge of young surgeons regarding the recent trends in the management of breast cancer.  The presidential address was delivered by the Director, Rev. Fr Patrick Rodrigues.  In his address he referred to cancer as a dangerous disease and stated that CSE’s like these which update the knowledge of the practicing surgeons, help the patient to get better treatment.  Dr Shubha N. Rao, organizing Secretary-CSE 2017 proposed the vote of thanks. The programme ended with Institutional anthem. 

Eminent speakers like Dr M. Vijaya Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Yenepoya University, Dr Clement R.S. D’Souza, Professor & Unit Head, Department of General Surgery, Dr Rohanchandra Gatty, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Surgical Oncology, Dr Nishitha Shetty, Assistant Professor, Department of Surgical Oncology and Dr Suresh Rao, Consultant Radiation Oncologist, Mangalore Institute of Oncology, spoke on various aspects of breast cancer management.  Approximately 120 delegates participated in the CSE-2017.  The programme was well appreciated by the delegates and the chairpersons.
