World Blood Donors Day 2017

Father Muller Medical College Hospital Blood Bank celebrated World Blood Donor’s Day and Inaugural of Youth Red Cross Unit 2017-18 on 13.07.2017.  Honorable Professor Dr Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor of Nitte University was the Chief Guest for the function.  The programme began with a Prayer song by Dr Priyanka and team, postgraduates of Pathology.  Dr Jayaprakash Alva, Dean of Father Muller Medical College welcomed the gathering and introduced the Chief Guest for the day. 

 Dr Shantharam Shetty, the Chief Guest for the programme mentioned in his message that there is no substitute for human blood.  The Youth of today have to come forward to donate blood in order to fulfill the requirement of blood as there is shortage of blood throughout the world. 

Dr Kirana Pailoor, Incharge of Blood Bank and Associate Professor of Pathology spoke on the significance of World Blood Donor’s Day.  She mentioned that it is an event established by WHO to raise awareness regarding safe blood and also to thank all regular voluntary blood donors for their life saving gift of blood.  She also said that the Youth of today are the driving force of tomorrow and hence they are establishing the Youth Red Cross Unit in Father Muller Medical College.  Dr Shantharam Shetty, the Chief Guest also inaugurated the Youth Red Cross Unit of 2017-18 by giving the certificates and badges for its Advisory Committee Members. 

 Around 20 Regular Voluntary Blood Donors were felicitated both by the Chief Guest,

Dr Shantharam Shetty and Rev Fr Rudolph Ravi D’Sa, Administrator FMMCH.  The Poster Competition was held on the theme “Don’t wait till the disaster strikes. Give blood. Give now. Give often.”  The judges and the winners of the Poster Competition were given Certificates and Mementoes by Rev Fr Ajith Menezes, Administrator Father Muller Medical College.  All the participants of the Poster Competition were given certificates by the Dean, Dr Jayaprakash Alva.

 Rev Fr Richard Coelho, the Director Father Muller Charitable Institutions who was the President for the function stated that he was also a voluntary blood donor who donated around 25 times earlier. He also addressed the gathering and stressed on the importance of voluntary blood donation and told the youth to come forward for this noble cause.  The programme concluded with Vote of Thanks by Dr Maithreyee, Faculty Member of Youth Red Cross Unit.  Dr Sanjeev Rai, Chief of Medical Services, Rev Fr Jeevan George Sequeira, Asst Administrator FMMCH, Sr Janet, Chief Nursing Officer, all HODs, Unit Chiefs, teaching and non teaching staff and students of MBBS, MLT and BPT were present for the programme.
