Silver Jubilee of the Department of Orthopaedics - CME & Alumni Meet

To
commemorate 25 years of starting PG course in the department of Orthopaedics,
CME and Alumni Meet was organized by the Department on 11th November 2017. The CME was on “current trends
in orthopaedics†and alumni meet was inaugurated by Prof. M. Shantaram Shetty,
Pro Chancellor NITTE University. Rev Fr Richard Coelho, Director, Father Muller
Charitable Institutions, presided over the function. Dr Jayaprakash Alva, Dean, Father
Muller Medical College and Dr K. Raghuveer Adiga, HOD, Department of
Orthopaedics, participated in the inaugural function. Dr Ronald J. Menezes,
Professor & Unit Chief was the Organising
Chairman and Dr Mrinal B. Shetty, Associate Professor, was the Organising
Secretary. Dr Gopalkrishna Hegde and Dr
Steve Rocha, both alumni, who recently passed away were remembered.
During
the function the former HODs Prof. Mahabala Rai, Dr Edward Nazareth, Dr Jacob Chacko as well as the present HOD
Dr K. Raghuveer Adiga were felicitated for their contribution towards the
department.
The
scientific session had talks covering an array of current and upcoming
orthopaedic interventions and was presented by alumni and staff from the
institution who had achieved laurels in the field. The session started with a
presentation by Dr Chirag T., Consultant Orthopedician and Arthroscopic Surgeon
who spoke on the current trends in MCL reconstruction. Dr Vijay Tubaki, Consultant
Spine Surgeon spoke regarding the surgical management of back pain instability.
Dr Harish P. Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon gave a presentation on
the current guidelines for the management of Paediatric bone and joint
infections. Dr Deepak Rai, Joint
replacement surgeon, spoke regarding the complications of total knee
replacement. Dr Latheesh Leo, Associate professor and Hand & Micro Vascular
Surgeon, Father Muller Medical College gave a talk on saving the Hand.
The
CME was well attended by around 75 alumni.
