The
Internal Quality Assurance Cell of Father Muller college of Nursing organized a
2 day workshop on ‘Innovative Teaching Learning and Evaluation Techniques’ in
Rajath Bhavan, from 9 am to 4.30 pm on 4th and 5th April
2018. Prof. Ciraj A.M., Deputy Director,
Manipal Centre for Professional and Personal Development and Professor of
Microbiology at Manipal University and Dr Anand R, Professor, Department of
Pulmonary Medicine, KMC Hospital, Mangalore were the resource persons for the
sessions.
On
day 1, delegates explored the current trends in changing paradigms in nursing
education, guidelines for effective delivery of lectures and use of power
point. Various techniques such as Classroom Response System (CRS),
brainstorming, Think, Pair, Share (TIPS), Buzz groups, Concept and mind maps
and Case Based Learning was discussed.
These sessions emphasised on student engagement techniques.
Day
2 covered foundations in student assessment, feedback, Problem Based Learning
(PBL), Workplace Based Assessment, Assessment tools such as logbooks, Mini
Clinical Evaluation Exercise (CEX), Directly Observed Procedural Skills (DOPS),
Mini PAT (Professional Assessment Test) and Portfolio. The speakers also
touched upon the upcoming trend, ‘Inter-Professional Education’ which is the
need of the hour. Around 50 teaching faculty from both School and College of
Nursing benefited from the sessions which focused on approaches to scaling up professional
development among nursing educators.
