Department of Mental Health Nursing, Father
Muller College of Nursing organized a one day seminar on “Ethical and legal
aspects in psychiatry†on 26th May 2018 at the Knowledge Centre Hall,
Father Muller Charitable Institutions.
The first session ‘Ethical dilemmas and
mental health care’ started at 9am by Dr Safeekh A T ,HOD, Dept of Psychiatry,
FMMC followed by the inaugural at 10am. Dr Anil Kakunje, HOD, Dept.of Psychiatry, Yenepoya
Medical College, Deralakatte was the chief guest and gave a keynote address
about the seminar theme. Rev. Fr Richard Aloysius
Coelho,
Director, FMCI delivered the presidential address. Sr Jacintha D’Souza,
Principal, FMCON distributed prizes for
the students who won in the poster competition on the Autism day theme of 2018.
Second session was by Dr
Hareesh Gouda, Associate Professor, Dept of Forensic Medicine, FMMC, on the
topic ‘Preventing legal issues in psychiatric clinical practice’ at 11am. Dr
Rameela Shekhar, Dean, PG Department, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru started her
session at 12 pm on the topic ‘Ethical and legal considerations in vulnerable
populations in psychiatry’. Followed by her session, there was a lunch break at
1pm.
Post lunch session began at 2pm
by Dr PV Bhandary, Director, Dr AV Baliga Group of Institutions, Udupi on an ‘Overview
on ‘Mental health care act 2017’. The last session of the day was taken by Dr
Thereza Mathias, Professor and HOD, Dept of Mental Health Nursing, Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing,
Mangaluru on ‘Ethical and legal aspects in psychiatric nursing practice’.
After the sessions the feedback
about the seminar was given by the KNC observer, Mrs Janet Miranda, HOD, Dept
of OBG Nursing, Yenepoya College of Nursing, Deralakatte, Mangaluru. The
seminar came to an end by 4.30pm. The UG and PG students and faculty of
different colleges were benefitted by the seminar
