CNE on High Alert Medications
A
Continuing Nursing Education Programme on High Alert Medications was
organised by the Continuing Nursing Education Cell of the Nursing Service
Department from 11th to 14th of June 2019. The speaker, Ms Asha Maria Rego,
Assistant In-charge, Pharmacy and Senior Pharmacist of Father Muller
Medical College Hospital highlighted that high alert
drugs are medications that are most likely to cause significant harm to
the patient even when used as intended. High alert medications cause harm more
commonly and the harm they produce is likely to be more serious and leads to
patient suffering and additional costs associated with care of these patients.
She provided tips on prevention of errors and described the
precautionary measures to be practiced while handling these drugs. She
also briefed on the different policies on appropriate management of
medicines.
