Community Health Nursing

The Community Health Nursing department of the College was established in the year 1987. The PG programme began in 1992. They Are Also involved in imparting regular health education to the public of the rural and urban areas, in guiding the UG/PG research projects of students and research consultancy.

The department was initially involved in training the students of School of Nursing and College of Nursing in the outreach areas of Mullerkad, which was a rural health centre. Now the services are extended to Surathkal, Thumbe Jeppu and Nireshwalya areas. The Department actively participates in the extension activities like National Health Programmes and health camps. Medical and Nursing students from Switzerland visit the department regularly to conduct the community oriented research projects.

At present the department is qualified staffs who are fully involved in training students in community health nursing and in promoting health and preventing Illness

OBJECTIVES

  • To impart essential knowledge, attitude and skills to provide quality services in communities.
  • To empower learners to respond to health needs in the cultural context using existing facilities.
  • To develop skills for collaboration with community based groups towards health promotion
  • To make students aware of the role of nurses in health care delivery systems.
  • To promote research mindedness in learners through the use of epidemiological methods.
