Workshop - Praescrìptiõ

Department of Pharmacology, FMMC organized a 2 day workshop, Praescrìptiõ - An Inter Professional Education workshop on Supplementary prescription writing on 23rd April 2024 in AV hall, Knowledge centre, FMMC and  STEMI prescription- A Sim-IPE approach, A Simulation scenario run workshop on 25th April, 2024 at Father Muller Simulation and Skill Centre. Dr Padmaja Udaykumar, Professor and Head, Department of Pharmacology, FMMC was the Organizing chairperson and Dr Chandralekha N, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology, FMMC was the Organizing secretary.

The program was officially inaugurated on 23rd April 2024 by lighting the lamp by Rev Fr Ajith B Menezes, Administrator, Dr Antony Sylvian Dsouza, Dr Padmaja Udaykumar, Professor & Head, Dr Agnes, Vice Principal, FMCON, Dr Chandralekha N, Associate Professor. Mr Lester Caevan Lobo, a participant also joined. Rev Fr Ajith B Menezes gave a strong message on the importance of writing prescriptions legibly which if ignored will lead to medication errors. Dr Scandashree S, Assistant Professor, Dept of Pharmacology compered the session.

There were altogether 33 participants from 3rd year BSc nursing, FMCON and medical interns, FMMC.

The topics covered during the workshop on 23rd April, 2024 were the Introduction and Principles of Prescribing, the Prescriptive role of Nurse Practitioners, Factors influencing Prescribing, Professional, legal, and ethical issues relevant to prescribing practice, Pathophysiology, clinical features, treatment of Suspected STEMI, Prescribing competencies, Process and steps of prescribing, Teamwork and prescription writing for ST elevated myocardial infarction. There was a pretest and a post-test. At the end, students were assessed on prescription writing.

On 25th April 2024, there was a pre-brief session, simulation scenario run and a debriefing for Group 1 students and the same was repeated for the Group 2 students. Simulation scenario performances of both groups were assessed based on the checklist. The participants appreciated the content, conduct of the workshops and efforts of the resource faculty and presentations.

The program came to an end with the distribution of certificates of appreciation to the resource faculty and certificates of participation to the participants. The organizing chairperson and organizing secretary thanked the resource faculty for their time and effort towards the successful conduct of the workshops. They also applauded the participants for their enthusiasm and active participation.
