Undergraduate Surgery Quiz 2018

The Department of General Surgery, Father Muller Medical College, organized “Undergraduate Surgery Quiz 2018” for MBBS students on 24.11.2018 at Knowledge Centre, A.V. Hall.  Students from Seven Medical Colleges in and around Mangalore consisting of 35 teams have participated in quiz.  

The event was half a day program and the inaugural function began with invoking the blessings from Almighty and by lighting the lamp by the dignitaries on the dais.  Welcome address was delivered by Dr. Leo Francis Tauro, Professor & HOD, Department of General Surgery.  Dr. Jayaprakash Alva, Dean, Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore addressed the gathering by congratulating the participants and the faculty members of the department for taking the initiative in organizing the quiz. 

The function was presided over by Rev. Fr. Rulolph Ravi D’Sa, Administrator, Father Muller Medical College Hospital, Mangalore.   In his Presidential address he said “Today quiz is emerging as an instrument of teaching and assessment of student’s performance.  This is a new venture, and definitely, students need to benefit out of these programmes”. 

Dr. George Taliat was the Quiz Master, assisted by Dr. Chirag Pereira.  The quiz consisted of a preliminary selection round – MCQ written test followed by a final quiz of 5 rounds with the top 5 teams. The final quiz consisted of five rounds which included Condition in surgery, a surgeon knows his tools, Kaun Banega Surgeon, Surgery is an art, rapid fire rounds. 

The first prize won by Mr. Manish Shetty and Vikyat Shetty, Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore.  The Second prize won by Mr. Shah Nawaz and Mr. Shashank Bangera, Father Muller Medical College, Mangalroe.  Third prize won by Mr. Suhas K.S. and Mr. Mali Abhishek, Yenepoya Medical College.  “Trauma Troopers” the best team name prize won by Ms. Mahima and Ms. Pooja, Srinivas Medical College, Mangalore.  

The Prizes were distributed by HOD and other Senior Professors in the Department of General Surgery.  Dr. Caren D’Souza rendered the vote of thanks.  The programme was compeered by Dr. Nayan Pinto, First year Postgraduate student.  Overall the programme was a grand success and well appreciated by the participant.
