Guest Lecture by Dr. Rameela Shekar

Department of Hospital Administration of Fr. Muller College of Allied Health Sciences, Mangalore organized a Work shop on "Effectiveness of peer led suicide prevention programme for educational institution" on 05.07.2023 at Knowledge centre. The resource person was Dr. Rameela Shekar, Professor at Roshni Nilaya, School of Social work. Currently working as a mental health professional and trainer at her own centre Manashanthi. Her team comprises of Dr. Avinash Shekar, Father Muller Medical College,       Dr. Avinash V NIMAHS, Dr. Laveena Noronha having their 21st workshop on the subject.

The programme started with the pre-test survey related to suicide prevention from all the participants. the official programme started with a prayer followed by lighting the lamp by the dignitaries Principal of Allied Health Science Dr. Hilda Dsouza gave the introducing speech about the workshop and announced the programme to be open for the day. The master of ceremony for the programme was hosted by Ms. Jenita Clara Crasta, MHA student.

Dr. Rameela briefed about the gate keeper training on the major public Health Concern "Suicide"; the facts and myths, the warning signs and preventive measures to be taken. The session included a audio visual display case study relating to real life stories were also discussed.

All the BHA and MHA students participated actively and it was a lifelong knowledge enrichment session after one session there was a post test conducted for all the students. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Mr. Rudolph Baptist, MHA students.
