CME on Bladder Cancer
On 12th
July 2024, the Department of Urology at Father Muller Medical College(FMMC),
Mangalore in collaboration with Mangalore Urology Forum(MUF) hosted a CME on
Bladder Cancer at 3.30pm in the AV Hall, Knowledge Centre, FMMC. The program
consisted of the PG Master Class which had talks by Dr. Krishna Kiran,
Professor, Radiology Department, FMMC,on "Interpretation of CT/MRI in Ca
Bladder".Dr. Umashankar, Professor & HOD of Pathology,FMMCspoke on the
topic"Interpretation of Pathology Reports and Variant Histology". Dr Suyog Shetty,
Associate Professor of Urology Department, FMMCspoke about "Intravesical
therapy in Ca Bladder". Dr. Mujeeb Rahiman, Professor & HOD of Urology
Department from Yenepoya Medical College delivered into"Surgical management
protocol for Ca Bladder". Above talks were interactive involving Post Graduates
and provided information on topics not routinely discussed but important for Post
Graduatesfrom theexamination point of view.
The CME was then
formally inaugurated in the presence of dignitaries. On the dias were Rev Fr.
Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director of Father Muller Charitable Institution (FMCI),
Rev. Fr Ajith B. Menezes, Administrator of FMMC, Dr. Antony Sylvan D'souza,
Deanof FMMC, Mangalore Urology Forum President Dr. Pritham Sharma and Secretary
Dr. Sanman K N, Dr. Prashanth Adiga the Organizing Chairman Professor & HOD
ofDepartment of Urology, FMMC and Dr. Abheesh Hegde the Organizing Secretary&Assistant
Professor, Department of Urology, FMMC. Among the audience were the Vice Dean
of FMMC,Dr. Venkatesh B M, Deputy Medical Superintendent
of FMMCH Dr. Kishan B Shetty, HOD's, Staff and Post Graduates from Urology
Departments of other institution in Mangalore and FMMC Staff. Dr. Prashanth
Adiga, the organizing chairman welcomed the gathering, after the invocation
song. Following thisthe dignitaries participated inthe symbolic lighting of the
lamp.Rev Fr. Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director of FMCI, President of the
program shared his views with the audienceand expressed his happiness with
department in conducting such academic activities. Dr. Abheesh Hegde the
organizing secretary proposed the vote of thanks on behalf of the department.

Corner was then conducted with the first talk by Dr. Dinesh Shet, Associate
Professor of Medical Oncology, FMMC on the topic"Role of Chemotherapy &
Advances in Ca Bladder". This was followed by Dr. Krishna Sharan, Professor
&HOD of Radiation Oncology KS Hegde Medical College whodelivered a talk on "Radiation
therapy in Ca Bladder & advances".Dr. Kishan Raj K,Assistant Professor of
Urology Department, FMMC spoke on "En Bloc resection and recent advances in Ca
Bladder". The Highlight of the program was the Panel Discussion conducted by
Dr. Prashanth Adiga with Dr Ashok Pandit andDr. Manjunath Shettyas Chairpersons,
Panelists were Dr. Suraj Hegde, Dr. Dinesh Shet, Dr. Krishna Sharan, Dr. Althaf
on the topic "Difficult scenarios in Ca Bladder".It was well- conducted
discussion with active participation from all gathered in the hall on that day.
Thedifficulties of managing such cases in day to day practice and the probable
treatmentpathways were discussed in detailed.
All the participatingfaculty for the various sessions were then handed over their certificates and saplings were given to all of them as a token of appreciation. Two Alumni of the department Dr. Anthony Thomas and Dr. Sahil Shaikh came from outside state to specially participate in the CME. Dr. Ranjith Shetty, Dr. Prashant Marla, Dr. Sanman K N, Dr. Nandakishore B participated as moderatorsfor the various sessions. Dr.ShreyasN M,Assistant Professor of Urology Department, FMMC was the Master of the Ceremony.Dinner was organized for all the delegates. The program was well appreciated by one and all and the delegates returned home having been enriched with latest updates in Bladder Cancer.
