Celebrating Unity and Diversity: FMCI Founder's Day
Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI) recently celebrated a momentous occasion, marking the 183rd Birth Anniversary of their Founder, Rev. Fr Augustus Muller SJ. The day was filled with joy, camaraderie, and a celebration of the institution's rich cultural heritage.
The highlight of the day was a Thanksgiving Mass held at 7:30 am in the St Joseph Chapel, which was offered by Rev. Dr Praveen Martis SJ, Vice Chancellor of St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangalore. In his sermon, Rev. Dr Martis emphasized the steadfastness of God's love, quoting the Bible verse, "Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne?" He likened this unwavering love to the commitment of Father Muller, who began his journey by dispensing medicine under a banyan tree and continued God's ministry by helping the poor and downtrodden.
The Mass was concelebrated by priests from the management of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, adding to the solemnity and reverence of the occasion. Following the Mass, attendees gathered for breakfast in the Cafeteria, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie among all present.
Founder's Day at FMCI is not only a celebration of the institution's history and roots but also a reminder of its ongoing commitment to serving humanity with compassion and dedication. As FMCI looks back on its rich legacy, it continues to look forward, inspired by the values and vision of its founder, Rev. Fr Augustus Muller SJ.
The festivities commenced at 5.30 pm with a grand procession from St. Joseph Chapel to the Convention Centre, where the cultural program was set to unfold. The procession, led by the esteemed Management Committee, advisory members, and Heads of the Institutions, was a spectacle to behold. Accompanied by a lively group of musicians and larger-than-life dolls, the procession was a vibrant display of unity and pride. The heartwarming sight of the staff members, representing the diverse branches of FMCI, coming together to celebrate was a true testament to the institution's ethos of togetherness. The staff's enthusiasm and dedication were evident as they performed various cultural and artistic acts, showcasing their talents and camaraderie.
The highlight of the evening was the cultural event, which kicked off at 6 pm. Father Muller Hospital and Nursing College Thumbay set the tone with a mesmerizing traditional dance, welcoming the audience and invoking blessings for the evening. The performance, which showcased the rich cultures of Punjab, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, was a beautiful ode to India's diversity and unity. Rev. Fr Ajith B Menezes, Administrator of Father Muller Medical College, extended a warm welcome to all attendees.
A poignant moment came with the floral tribute to Rev. Fr Augustus Muller SJ, a gesture of respect and honor by the FMCI leadership. Rev. Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho Director FMCI, emphasized the importance of unity and familial values, urging everyone to foster a spirit of love, mutual respect, and support within the institution.
The cultural program, guided by Rev. Fr George Jeevan Sequeira Administrator Father Muller Medical College Hospital, featured a range of performances that captivated the audience. The evening began with a mesmerizing dance fusion titled "Retro to Metro," presented by the Father Muller College of Speech and Hearing, Father Muller College of Nursing and School of Nursing, with the theme of Love. This was followed by a western act themed around Hollywood, presented by Father Muller Medical College Hospital, showcasing the institution's commitment to excellence in entertainment.
Prize distribution for various sports events added a competitive edge to the celebration, with Mrs. Jyothi Pinto, HR Manager of the Medical College and Hospital, announcing the winners to thunderous applause.
The cultural program proceeded with the Medical College and Hospital staff of Father Muller Homeopathic Medical College and Hospital, along with the Homeopathic Production unit staff, presenting energetic dances on the theme "Retro to Metro Bollywood." This was followed by captivating folk dances from Tulunadu, presented by Father Muller Medical College, Father Muller College of Allied Health Sciences, and Father Muller College of Physiotherapy. The folk dances showcased a blend of Mangalorean cultures, including baila, daffmattu, and kangilu, delighting the audience with their vibrant performances.
One of the highlights of the evening was the administrators coming together to sing a series of baila songs, adding a fun and interactive element to the event. With over 2500 people in attendance, the fully air-conditioned convention centre was filled with joy and enthusiasm. The students and staff alike vibed with the music and broke into a dance frenzy, creating a lively and memorable atmosphere.
The event was skillfully compered by Dr. Jessy RMO & OBG specialist at Father Muller Salvadore Monterio Rural Health Training Centre Bajpe, and Ms. Anusha, MRO at FMMCH. The entire program was supervised by Rev. Fr Jeevan George Sequeira and Ms. Jyothi Pinto, with stage arrangements managed by Rev. Fr Ajith B Menezes and team. Rev. Fr Nelson Dheeraj Pais, Asst. Administrator at FMMCH, and his team ensured that all members of FMCI present for the cultural program were well taken care of, especially with the food arrangements.
The evening concluded with a heartfelt grace by Rev. Fr Ronald Lobo, the Spiritual Animator, followed by a sumptuous vegetarian meal served by Padival Catering Moodbidri to over 5500 staff, students, and family members. As the night progressed, the baila dance continued, with DJ Chris keeping the energy high until 9.30pm.
Overall, the Founder's Day celebration at FMCI was a resounding success, bringing together the entire FMCI community as one big family. The event not only showcased the talent and cultural diversity within the institution but also highlighted the strong sense of unity and togetherness that defines the FMCI community.
