Awareness on World Breastfeeding Week and Camps by Department of Paediatrics

In view of the World Breastfeeding Week, the Department of Paediatrics organized camp from 1st to 7th August 2024, highlighting the significance of breastfeeding for both maternal and infant health. The department conducted a series of awareness activities to emphasize this crucial topic.

 

Paediatrics Post-graduates delivered daily awareness talks and free check-ups for the children at OPD of FMHMCH throughout the week, aimed at educating the general public, particularly breastfeeding mothers, on various aspects of breastfeeding. Additionally, the OPD offered special benefits, including free consultations for newly registered neonates and infants, complimentary hunger/appetite assessments, and Salivary Ghrelin Hormone estimation, along with a 50% discount on CBC, AEC, and chest X-rays.

 

On 6th August 2024, an awareness talk and health screening camp was held at Nethaji Anganwadi, Deralakatte. The session covered the nutritional advantages of breastfeeding, techniques of correct breastfeeding and strategies for overcoming common challenges. Anthropometric and nutritional screening of 10 children was conducted, referrals made to the Paediatrics OPD of FMHMCH.

 

On 7th August 2024, an awareness talk on Breastfeeding and Nutrition, along with a Health screening camp was conducted at Urumane Anganwadi, Natekal. The event featured educational talks on breastfeeding methods and their importance, discussions on general child nutrition, interactive sessions with parents, and the distribution of nutrition booklets published by FMHMC. Approximately 30 mothers attended and benefited from the camp.

 

In addition to the on-ground activities, Instagram reels were created and shared on the official FMHMC Instagram page by the Paediatrics postgraduates. These reels provided concise, engaging content on various aspects of breastfeeding, including practical advice and the benefits for both mother and child. The social media campaign successfully reached a broader audience and helped raise awareness and support for breastfeeding practices.

 

 

On 11th August 2024, an awareness talk and Healthy Baby competition were conducted in collaboration with Fr L M Pinto Hospital, Badyar, Belthangady. A total of 18 children participated in the competition, where they were evaluated based on their anthropometric measurements. Concessions on investigations were provided, and an awareness talk on child nutrition was delivered during the event.
