DERMA ADVANCE 2024 - Exam Orientation Programme for Dermatology Residents (24th & 25th August 2024)

The Department of Dermatology, Venereology, and Leprosy at Father Muller Medical College, in association with the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists & Leprologists (IADVL) Karnataka Branch and IADVL Academy - Karnataka  organized "DERMA ADVANCE - 2024" an exam orientation programme for dermatology residents. The event was held on the 24th and 25th of August 2024 at the Knowledge Centre and provided an in-depth exploration of various critical topics for dermatology postgraduates. The well-organized event featured insightful sessions from experienced faculty members.   This event has been accredited by Karnataka Medical Council with 3 credit hours. 

The programme commenced with registration and breakfast. The inaugural programme was held at 9 am on 24th August 2024 at the Decennial Memorial Hall. Dr. Jacintha Martis, Professor & HOD of the Department of Dermatology at FMMC, welcomed the gathering. Dr. Manjunath Shenoy, President of IADVL, was the Chief Guest, and Dr. Mitaxari M Hugar, President of IADVL Karnataka, was the Guest of Honour. Rev. Fr. Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director of FMCI, presided over the function. Rev Fr Ajith B Menezes Administrator FMMC,  Dr Antony Sylvan D Souza, Dean FMMC, Dr Imaad Mohammed Ismail, Professor Community Medicine, Yenepoya Medical College who was the KMC observer for the event and Dr. Mahesh Kumar C, Secretary IADVL Karnataka were among the dignitaries on the dais.     Dr Hilda D Souza, Dean Father Muller College of Allied Health Sciences, Dr Uday Kumar, Medical Superintendent, Dr Ashwini P K Chairperson and Dr Nagesh T S Convener of IADVL Academy Karnataka graced the occasion.  Dr. Michelle Fernandes, Professor of Dermatology at FMMC, Organizing Secretary proposed the vote of thanks.   

Day 1: 24th August 2024

  • Dr. Malcolm Pinto delivered a session on "How to prepare and write a theory paper - an overview," offering practical tips and guidelines for academic writing.
  • This was followed by Dr. Girish P N's session on "How to prepare for practical exams," which emphasized effective strategies for exam preparation.
  • After a short tea break, the faculty led a discussion on spotters, which are crucial for the practical exams.
  • Post-lunch, case discussions began with a focus on Immunobullous Disorders, with Dr. Raghavendra Rao, Dr. Gatha Upadya, Dr. Girish P N, and Dr. Mahesh Kumar sharing their expertise.
  • The second case discussion on Connective Tissue Disorders was moderated by Dr. Manjunath Shenoy, Dr. Shruthakirthi D Shenoi, and Dr. Rajiv S, offering a deep dive into these complex conditions.
  • The session concluded with presentations on IADVL fellowships and grants by Dr. Manjunath Shenoy, followed by a session on Histopathology led by Dr. Ramesh Bhat.

 

 

 

Day 2: 25th August 2024

  • The day began with a session titled "Beyond the draft: What it takes to get published" by Dr. Rochelle Monteiro, providing valuable insights into the publication process.
  • This was followed by a case discussion on Erythroderma, with contributions from Dr. Sukumar D, Dr. Girish B S, Dr. Tonita Noronha, and Dr. Nagesh T S.
  • A subsequent session focused on Hansen's disease, led by Dr. Jerome Pinto, Dr. Nanda Kishore B, Dr. Ganesh Kamath, and Dr. Sripathi H.
  • After the tea break, discussions shifted to Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), focusing on two critical cases: Genital ulcer and Urethral discharge. The session was led by Dr. Ramesh Bhat M, Dr. Pramod Kumar, Dr. Jacintha Martis, Dr. Smitha Prabhu, Dr. Mitaxari M Hugar, and Dr. Ashwini P K.
  • Sessions on Drugs by Dr. Vinma Shetty and Instruments by Dr. Kashinath Nayak were conducted.
  • Dr. Narendra Kamath provided insights into Community Dermatology, highlighting the importance of dermatological care at the community level.
  • The final session, "What next after Post Graduation," by Dr. Ganesh S Pai, offered guidance for students on their future career paths.

The event concluded with a valedictory event wherein members of organizing committee were felicitated. Dermatology Residents from all over Karnataka participated in this academic event, making it a significant and successful gathering for those preparing for their exams.
