Director's message

Dear faculty, staff and students,

Greetings to all of you,

I quote Florence Nightingale : “Nursing is an art and if it is to be made an art, it requires an exclusive devotion as hard a preparation as any painter’s or sculptor’s work; for what is the having to do with dead canvas or dead marble, compared with having to do with the living body, the temple of God’s Spirit ?” Further she says it is one of the Fine Arts : the finest of Fine Arts.

We at Father Muller’s aim at holistic training to our nurses to be “fine tune” nurses. By fine tune I mean nurses with a large heart and broad mind to dispense not the pills but to dispense mercy and empathy. It is to make the patient feel that he or she is loved and cared for. It is to evoke a feeling in the suffering humans that life is worth living, life is precious and life has to be made beautiful.

If every nursing student thinks that she is the dispenser of mercy and empathy then one should gear herself towards fine tuning. You should concentrate on your studies both theory and clinicals. Bed side learning is of utmost importance. Remember every patient is the image of God. See in your patient your own father, mother, brother, sister or a close friend. Do it to your patient what you want to be done to yourself when you are sick.

Time is short. Just in 3 years with 6 months rotational internship you will be a qualified nurse. Ask yourself am I a confident nurse ? Am I a competent nurse ? If so you have succeeded in making nursing a true art. To be artistic you require skills. Learn those skills and be confident to do various nursing procedures with confidence and commitment.

This year from March 2020 onwards Covid -19 pandemic attacked India. We are all panic and anxious of what will be the future. The entire globe came to a stand-still. God is at work teaching us valuable lessons. So let us accept all sanctions, rules and regulations and protocols of personal hygiene so that we all promote health and wellness. Stay healthy and make others also healthy.

God bless you.
