NURSES DAY CELEBRATION -2022

'Not Just Nurses, You're the Warriors' who had played a vital role ever since the Pandemic started, taking care of the Covid-19 patients by putting their own lives in risk, and sacrificing their service for others to live.

An International nurse's day was celebrated on 12th May 2022 at 2:30pm at Father Muller Hospital Thumbay. The programme began with a prayer song led by MBBS and Homeopathy Interns, followed by the welcome address by Rev. Fr Sylvester Vincent Lobo, Administrator, FMHT. He addressed nurses saying, the one who opens the eyes of a new born baby and closes the eyes of a dying man.

The Chief guest of the programme was Sr Dhanya Devasia - CNO at FMMCH, Kankanady, Rev.Fr Richard Coelho - Director FMCI was the President  Sr Janet D'souza - former CNO FMMCH Kankanady, Dr Urban J Dsouza, Dean of Father Muller College of Allied Health Health Sciences, Rev.Fr Sylvester Vincent Lobo Administrator FMHT, Dr Kiran Shetty - Medical Superintendent of FMH-Thumbay, Rev.Fr John Vas, Chaplain at FMH-Thumbay garlanded the portrait of Florence Nightingale.

Ms Anusha Rebello, staff nurse FMH-Thumbay shared her experience being a Nurse, and her dedicated service to the community and the suffering humanity.

On the occasion of hand hygiene day HIC department Thumbay had organized Model Making Competition. Winners of the competition were announced by Dr.Sarita Lobo, Department of Ophthalmology & HICO and Sr. Dhanya Devasia distributed the prizes to the winners and all the participants.

Addressing the gathering Sr. Dhanya Devasia, congratulated all staff nurses for being a part of the largest health care professionals who contribute much to the health, welfare and development of the society. She remembered 202th birthday of Florence nightingale. Without the presence of nurses no health care setting can function and without their contribution no health team is complete. Be proud that nurses make a difference and they have responded to God and accepted this noble profession". We all nurses need to live the theme of this year proposed by the ICN "Nurses: A Voice to Lead - Invest in nursing and respect rights to secure global health'.

On this occasion Best Bedside Nurse Ms Vidya U S and Best Nursing-Aide Ms Maria Magdaleena S was announced by Dr Kiran Shetty and awarded by Rev Fr. Richard A Coelho Director FMCI, who were selected based on the criteria being Caring, Communication Skills, Empathy, Problem solving skills, Sense of humour, Commitment to Patient care, Willingness to learn, Time Management, Leadership and Extracurricular activities.

On May 1, 2022, Father Muller Hospital Thumbay opened its doors to the 10th year. A number of programs have been held this year. One of these is a free health screening camp for all outpatient departments were arranged. A handbill was released by our Director Rev. Fr Richard A. Coelho.

Rev.Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director, FMCI congratulated the nurses and praised them by addressing them as angels of friendship.  He called upon the nurses to share love as an antidote to anger, agitation and worry, to carry the virtues of kindness and patience. 

A few fun games were conducted by Ms Rileesha Sequeira - Assistant Quality Manager at FMH-Thumbay, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Ms Silviya Nisha Lobo - Nursing Supervisor at FMH-Thumbay. The whole programme was compered by Ms Alisha Rodrigues - Dietician at FMH-Thumbay.

Programme was concluded by singing institutional anthem. Refreshments were served to all gathering.
