REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATION - 2021
The 72nd Republic Day was celebrated at
Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College campus on 26.01.2021. It honours the date
on which the Constitution
of India came into effect on 26 January
1950 replacing the Government
of India Act (1935) as the governing
document of India and thus, turning the nation into a newly formed republic.
The programme
commenced at 8.45am by invoking the blessings of the almighty through a prayer song
lead by Miss Shilpa Sunny and team.

President of the function Rev. Fr J.B.
Crasta, Principal Dr ESJ Prabhukiran,
Vice Principal Dr Vilma Meera Dsouza,
Chief Guest Dr. Joseph Thomas and
Former Principal's and the august gathering. He introduced the chief guest Dr Joseph Thomas.
Chief guest Dr Joseph Thomas hoisted the national
flag. In his message he conveyed about the significance of republic day stating
"Republic signifies the power, which is supreme. A resident living in the
Republic country appreciates the right to choose their delegates/political
pioneer to lead the nation. In this way, in the Republic of India, each
resident appreciates equivalent rights independent of status and sex. This day is
all about enthusiasm, respect, understanding the sacrifices and hugely
celebrating our freedom. He also quoted Dr B R Ambedkar "Show respect even to the people who don't even deserve it; not as a
reflection of their character, but as a reflection of yours". Today is the
day when everyone young or old, short or tall, light skinned or dark skinned must
come together to show the whole world that this nation is the best nation under
the sun.
Rev Fr J B Crasta presided over
the programme and garlanded the portrait of Dr B R Ambedkar, the chief architect
of the Constitution
of India, and a founding father of the Republic of India. In his presidential address he highlighted the importance
of celebrating republic day. He asserted Republic Day signifies the right spirit of Independent and
individual India. It's a day to honour the Constitution of independent India. The constitution declares India as sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic, assuring its citizens justice, equality and liberty, and endeavours to promote fraternity. He stressed upon the importance of being knowledgeable
about our constitution stating "The Indian constitution is the world's longest
for a sovereign nation.The constitution has a preamble and 470 articles which
are grouped into 25 parts With 12 schedules and 5 appendices, it has been
amended 104 times; the latest amendment became effective on 25 January 2020.
