Pharmacovigilance Awareness Program for ASU&H Drugs at Alvas HMC

An awareness program on pharmacovigilance in ASU&H Drugs was held at MBA Auditorium of Alva's Homeopathic Medical College, Mijar -Moodbidri on March 21, 2024,

The event commenced with a soulful rendition by the college choir team, invoking a sense of reverence and harmony.

Dr Deepak R D extended a warm welcome to all attendees, emphasizing the importance of pharmacovigilance in ensuring drug safety and efficacy.

An elegant floral welcome was extended to the speakers and dignitaries by the master of ceremonies, adding a touch of grace to the event.Symbolizing the illumination of knowledge and wisdom, dignitaries ceremoniously lit the lamp, marking the auspicious beginning of the programme.

Dr Roshan Pinto, the president of the event, shared insightful remarks on the significance of pharmacovigilance in alternative systems of medicine, highlighting the need for rigorous monitoring and reporting of adverse drug reactions.

Dr Vivek Sakthidharan's session on adverse drug reactions and adverse drug events in the Ayurveda, Siddha, and Unani system provided valuable insights into the complexities of pharmacovigilance within alternative systems of medicine. His expertise and engaging presentation style enriched the audience's understanding of the challenges and importance of monitoring drug safety in traditional healing practices.

Dr Fathima Soudath, delivered an enlightening presentation on the Drug and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act and the prevalence of misleading advertisements in the healthcare industry. Her session aimed to raise awareness about the regulatory framework governing advertising practices and the implications of misleading promotions on public health. Her comprehensive overview and illustrative examples underscored the importance of promoting ethical advertising standards and safeguarding public health from deceptive promotions.

The session concluded with a lively discussion and Q&A segment, during which participants engaged with the speakers  to clarify doubts and share their perspectives on Adverse Drug Reactions and addressing misleading advertisements. Overall,  presentations served as a catalyst for raising awareness and fostering collaboration in upholding integrity and transparency in healthcare advertising practices and continued dialogue and collaboration in advancing pharmacovigilance efforts within the ASU system.

The event boasted an impressive turnout, with a total of 392 participants in attendance. This significant number reflects the widespread interest and importance attributed to the topic of Pharmacovigilance in alternative systems of medicine and the regulatory framework surrounding healthcare advertising. The diverse audience contributed to enriching discussions and facilitated a fruitful exchange of ideas throughout the duration of the awareness programme.

As a token of appreciation, mementos were presented to the esteemed speakers by the master of ceremonies, acknowledging their valuable contributions to the awareness programme.
