A National Continuing Medical Education (CME)
- QUEST '24, focused on 'Legal Reforms
in India - AYUSH', was organized by the Department of Forensic Medicine and
Toxicology, Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College on 4th February 2024
(Sunday) in the Father Muller Auditorium, Deralakatte.
The Principal Dr E S J Prabhu Kiran welcomed the gathering and introduced the
speakers.
The Chief Guest Dr Hareesh S. Gouda, Professor & Head, Dept of Forensic
Medicine and Toxicology, Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore, lit the lamp
of knowledge along with Assistant Administrator of Father Muller Homoeopathic
Medical College Rev. Fr Ashwin Crasta, other dignitaries on the dais and the
first registered delegate to inaugurate QUEST '24.
Dr Hareesh S. Gouda addressed the delegates
and delivered an insightful message on the critical importance of legal reforms
to safeguard and empower medical practitioners in the country. Rev. Fr Ashwin Crasta who presided over
the inaugural, expressed that legal knowledge is the key that unlocks the door
to justice, empowerment, and informed decision-making.
The morning sessions were enlightened by Dr Nagesh K. R., Professor, Department
of Forensic Medicine, Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore regarding
'Bio-ethics', and Dr. Hareesh S. Gouda,
Professor & Head, Dept of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Father Muller
Medical College, Mangalore about 'The legal aspects of Medical and Medico-legal
Certificates'.
The afternoon session was dealt by Dr Shahnavaz Manipady, Professor &
Head, Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences Mangalore and Dr Ullasa Shetty, Professor & HOD Dept. of Forensic Medicine
& Toxicology, A. J. Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre,
Mangalore on the topic 'Recent amendments in various Acts'.
In the later part of the event, a quiz
competition was conducted for the participants, and prizes were presented to
the outstanding performers in the Continuing Medical Education Quiz on Forensic
Medicine. The cash prize amounting Rs 3000/- was sponsored by Dr Guruprasad
M.N, prestigious alumnus of 1994 batch. The top three winners were Ms. Olivia
Paul, II BHMS student from Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College and Ms.
Akshatha, II BHMS student from Alvas Homoeopathic Medical College, securing the
first position jointly. Ms. Aishwarya B, II BHMS student from Alva's
Homoeopathic Medical College, secured the second spot, while Mr. Vivek Ramdas Kawle
claimed the third position.
Total 441 delegates took part in the CME including
faculty and students of various AYUSH Institutions such as Karnataka Ayurveda
Medical College, Yenepoya Ayurveda Medical College, Sarada Ayurveda Medical College, Alvas
Homoeopathic Medical College, Yenepoya Homoeopathic Medical College and Father
Muller Homoeopathic Medical College.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Madona
Joseph, Professor & Head, Department of Forensic Medicine, Father Muller
Homoeopathic Medical College.
