N.S.S. Unit 2020

NSS programmes conducted by the Unit :

  • MASK DAY:
    The NSS unit of Father Muller Medical College observed Mask Day on 18th June 2020 in Jeppu PHC from 11am to 12pm. A talk was delivered on how to put, use and dispose the mask and importance of wearing the mask by Dr Nishant (Asst Prof Community Medicine), also hand wash steps were demonstrated by our Intern Dr Roshan Mariam. Masks were distributed to the needy.
  • INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY :
    In this Pandemic what is of most importance to us is to keep ourselves and our Family healthy and safe. YOGA is one of the ways towards healthy life style. In the view of International Yoga Day, the theme for this year being Yoga @ Home and Yoga with Family. The NSS unit of Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore conducted a Yoga session by Mr Kushalappa Gowda (MSC Yogic Sciences) on 19th June 2020 from 3 to 4.30pm. The importance of Pranayama and few other Asanas was told and demonstrated. Few of our faculties attended the session maintain the social distancing and other norms. The program was relayed through ZOOM and the students of our college could attend the same.
  • FIT INDIA 2020
    The NSS volunteers of Father Muller Medical College and Allied Health Sciences took part in the Fit India Run conducted by FIT INDIA MOVEMENT which started from 15th August to 2nd Oct to encourage fitness and help us all to get freedom from obesity, laziness, stress, anxiety and other diseases. 8 students and 25 staff participated in this event
  • INDEPENDENCE DAY 2020 :
    The 74th Independence Day was celebrated with great patriotism and Zeal in Father Muller Charitable Institutions by hoisting our the Tri colour Flag at 8am in the Father Muller Campus. The students of MBBS batch 2019 made a video portraying their patriotism towards their country.
  • BREASTFEEDING AWARENESS 2020:
    As a part of Breastfeeding awareness week the NSS Unit of Father Muller Medical College conducted Poster Competition for the students. Students were asked to submit the posters by mail, the posters were judged by Dr Sowmya Bhat, Dept Community Medicine FMMC and Dr Vinitha Kunder, Dept of Pharmacoloy FMMC. The best two posters were awarded the prize. The 1st prize won by Binu C J MBBS 2017 and 2nd by Chaithanya K S MBBS 2018
  • NATIONAL EDUCATION POLICY 2020 JAGRUTHI ABHIYAN
    The NSS Unit of Father Muller Medical College has organized a talk on sensitization to the National Education Policy 2020. The talk was conducted by Dr Shailaja Katti NSS and UBA Coordinator, through Impartus (Online Platform) on 23/9/2020 from 11am to 11.45am. About 120 MBBS students attended the session, the session was very interactive and informative.
  • INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY 2020 :
    On the occasion of international Women's Day on 8,h March,Women Empowerment Cell in association with NSS Unit of Father Muller Medical College, had organized a talk by Dr Rameela shekar, Mental Health Professional, Manashanthi Mangalore in the Decennial Hall from 3 to 4.30 pm. Talk was attended by 130 plus Medical and Nursing staffs and was well liked and appreciated by all.

  • Awareness on Voting rights and responsibilities
    The NSS unit of Father Muller Medical College joined the walkathon conducted by the Election Commission in March 2019, for the awareness of rights and responsibilities of the people to vote . Around 60 NSS Volunteers participated in this program
  • International Yoga Day 2019
    The Nss unit of Father Muller Medical College observed International Yoga Day on 21st of June 2019 from 3.30 pm in Father Muller Indoor Stadium . Mr Naveen D’Souza Governing Board Member of FMCI and Ex-Carpoarator, Mangalore city carporation was the Chief guest for the program. An one hour Yoga session along with advice on diet was taken by Dr Havyashree a yoga trainer. Around 500 students took the benefit of the program
  • Vanamahotsava 2019
    Vanamahotsava was celebrated at Father Muller Medical College on 6th of July 2019 at Academy call. The program was started with a prayer song and welcome address. There was a display of power point presentation of the previous year celebration of Vanamohotsava with the pictures of the plants that were planted last year and their growth till now . Fresh Saplings were handed over to different departments and around 35 trees were planted in the campus. An award was given to the group who had taken good care of the plant that was planted last year , around 250 students participated in this event.
  • Sadbhavana Day Report – 2019
    Sadbhavana Day was celebrated and oath taking was done by NSS unit of Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore on 20th August 2019 at Indoor Stadium , around 120 NSS Volunteers were present for this Ceremony.
  • Dengue Surveillance
    The NSS Unit of Father Muller Medical college Conducted a Dengue Surveillance In and around Mangaladevi area on 22th and 23th August 2019 . Around 40 NSS volunteers with 5 staff member took part in this Survey. The volunteers visited 100 houses per day, 18 confirmed sites were identified and brought to the notice of District Health officer, 16 cases of fever noted among the houses surveyed with 8 confirmed cases.
  • “Fit India Movement” 2019
    The Fit India Movement launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister on 29th of August 2019 in a view to take the Nation forward in the path of Fitness and wellness to work towards a healthier India. Necessary arrangements were made to View the Program and Pledge was taken around 150 NSS volunteers attended the program .
  • Swatch Bharat 2019
    The NSS Unit of Father Muller Medical College carried out a Cleaning Drive on 2nd Oct 2019 - Gandhi Jayanti. The NSS volunteers along with the NSS Coordinators Dr Shailaja Katti and Mrs Ranya Satish cleaned the Stadium all the plastic and other waste was cleaned the students took part with great enthusiasm. 51 students from MBBS, MIT, MLT. RT participated in this drive. The cleaning started at 7am and ended by 9.30 am.
  • Unnathi Bharat 2019
    The NSS unit of Father Muller Medical College in association with Unnathi Healing Foundation conducted Peer to Peer Counselling for the students of Cascia High School, Jeppu Mangalore on 8th Nov 2019 from 1.30 to 3.30 pm. A pre brief session was held in the college the same day from 9.00 to 10.00 am by Miss Padmavathi S, Head of Operations Unnathi Healing Foundation.70 students from batch 2018 took part in the activity. The pre awareness sessions questionnaire were filled and around 200 students from class 8th to 10th were counselled. After the session debriefing was done for the volunteers.
  • Street Play on Cancer Awareness
    The NSS unit and Community Medicine Dept of Father Muller Medical College performed a Street Play on Cancer awareness, in an awareness program conducted by CODP and Indian cancer society on 4th Feb 2020 in Aloysius ground. The slogan of the street play was CANCLE CANCER.

NSS programmes conducted by the Unit :

  • VANAMAHOTSAVA – “THINK GREEN AND LIVE GREEN”
    NSS unit of FMMC organized a tree planting drive on Saturday 07 July 2018. The Chief Guest for the day, Dr. K. Sundara Bhat, Professor of General Medicine at Father Muller Medical College Hospital spoke on the concept of Growing Plants without soil. 40 trees were planted around the campus.
  • 4th INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY
    International Yoga Day was celebrated on 21st June 2018 in Father Muller Indoor Stadium. The program began at 10 a.m with a Prayer song, about 600 students participated in the program. Honourable Minister for Urban Development and Housing Mr U. T Khader inaugurated International Yoga Day celebration.
  • AWARNESS OF HAND HYGEINE AND WASTE DISPOSAL FOR SCHOOL STUDENTS
    Awareness of Hand Hygiene and proper waste disposal for school students. On 19th July 2018 we covered 2 Dakshin KannadaZilla Pamchayat Model Higher Primary School Sujeer, Thumbe and DKZP school Thumbe.
  • SWATCH BHARAT ABHIYAN 2018
    On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti the NSS Unit along with the student development committee of Father Muller Medical College carried out a Cleaning Drive. The NSS volunteers along with the NSS Cordinators Dr Shailaja Katti and Mrs Ramya Satish cleaned the old Kankanady road with great enthusiasm. 31 students participated in this drive.
  • ORGAN DONATION AWARNESS 2018:
    Muller Medical College in association with Indian Medical Association, Mangalore organized an awareness talk on Organ Donation for the Under Graduate Students of FMMC on 22nd Nov 2018 at Decennial Memorial Hall. Dr Manjunath J, Professor and Head Dept of Nephrology FMMC and Dr Amit D Souza, Assistant Professor Dept of Nephrology FMMC were the resource persons for the Program. They enlightened the students about what is organ donation, common problem areas, Concerns about organ donation and how we have to encourage people for this Nobel cause. Around 400 students attended the talk also many of the students pledged for organ donation.
  • HEALTH AWARNESS TALK
    The NSS Unit of Father Muller Medical College Conducted a Health Awareness Talk for Self Help women group of CODP ( Canara Organization of Development and Peace) on 8th of Dec 2018 at Arkula Anganwadi Mangalore. Awareness on commonly encountered women problems like Anaemia, White Discharge, Menorrhagia, Self Breast Examination was given by Dr Soumya Bhat, around 40 women attended the talk

NSS Regular Camp Report for the year 2017

NSS programmes conducted by the Unit :

  • DONATION OF BOOKS TO ORPHANAGE
    The NSS unit of Father Muller Medical College organised a book donation program for the inmates of Bhagini Samaj orphanage on 31/5/2017. Around 20 NSS volunteers accompanied by the program officers, took part in the event. 200 note books were distributed to the children of the orphanage and also snacks were distributed to the children.
  • INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY
    NSS officer Dr Shailaja Katti along with three NSS volunteeres Ms Deekshitha, Ms Sushmitha Ravi Kumar and Ms Vinal Mascarenhas, attended the University level NSS Program - a 3 day yoga camp - organised by SDM College of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciencies, Ujire from 19 th to 21 st June 2017.
  • INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY
    The NSS unit of Father Muller Medical College along with Student development committee, celebrated International Yoga Day on 22 nd June 2017. Yoga therapist Mr Kushalappa Gowda was invited on the occasion, who spoke about the importance of Yoga and showed different asanas and their importance in maintaining good health. Around 50 NSS volunteers along with the staff of Father Muller Medical College, participated in the programe.
  • OLD AGE HOME VISIT
    The NSS unit of Father Muller Medical College, along with Student development committee, organised a visit to St Anthony's old age Homes on 1 st Oct 2017. Around 50 NSS volunteers accompanied by the program officers took part in the event. The volunteers distributed snacks to the inmates. Also students collected clothes and donated to the old age home. The volunteers talked to the inmates and spent time with them.

N.S.S. Unit - 2016

NSS programmes conducted by the Unit :

  • Blood Donation Drive: A blood donation drive was conducted on June 14th under the aegis of the unit. The medical students were enthused to take part and help those in times of medical emergencies. Under the guidance of the N.S.S. officer, the students held a discussion, chaired by Melanie Pinto, on the importance of donating blood and innovative methods to ensure that victims of medical emergencies did not have to worry about arranging blood in their period of distraught.
  • Vanamahotsava: 24th July 2014 was a day to go green in the Father Muller campus. The NSS Unit celebrated “Vanamahotsava” the traditional tree planting festival which saw the likes of students, staff as well the management enthusiastically planting mango saplings all around the campus. Over 50 students participated in planting of saplings.
  • Adoption of Villages: On 4th August 2014 the NSS students volunteered to adopt Mundage village about 27 Kms from Mangalore city. They conducted a thorough one week community evaluation of the medical and social situation of the community. The Community needs assessment showed that majority of the villagers suffered from Anemia and a high prevalence of hypertension in the elderly population. Health education was provided and a talk on importance of breast feeding was given at the College hospital Rural Health Training centre. The NSS students also noticed lacunae of utensils and educational toys / posters at the local Anganwadi centre. As the village has been adopted by the NSS students, further activities will be carried out to improve the medical and social issues affecting the residents.
  • Children’s Programme: 22nd February 2015 : The NSS students sang songs in the Paediatric Ward. They had a game for all the children and then sweets were distributed to all.
  • 5. Graduation Day: On 13th March the graduates of Father Muller Charitable Institutions proudly took part in a glorious ceremony for their convocation. The NSS volunteers helped make this day a memorable one for their seniors by leading the graduates to their respective seats, guiding the proud parents to their reserved seats and in crowd management.
