Workshop on Non-lecture Teaching Methods

A Workshop on Non-lecture Teaching Methods was organized by Medical Education Committee for the Faculty members on the 28th & 29th of February 2024.

 

Dr Jacintha Veigas, Professor & Clinical Coordinator, Dept of Community Health Nursing, NITTE Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences, Mangaluru was the Resource Person

 

There was a short Inaugural program 28.02.2024. Rev Fr Roshan Crasta Administrator, FMHMC, in his inaugural address, emphasized the importance of involving innovative techniques in Education Methodology and motivated the faculty members to thereby evolve with the new generation.

 

It was an informative session where Dr Jacintha Veigas stressed upon the correlation of education & discipline. She explained the various techniques to be used as Teaching Learning Methods & requested to implement different methods for different topics to create interest in students to learn. She also explained the importance of planning the academic & Internal assessment schedule for the upcoming academic year so that the students as well as the departments are aware of the schedule. She focused on student centric mode of teaching & highlighted the importance of Continuous assessment plan & Formative assessment. Give wheigtage to all the works of students including attendance, assignments etc. giving chance for the students to score Internal assessment fairly well & avoid stress among the students while writing summative exam. The program was made more dynamic with few group activities pertaining to the topic like presentation of a seminar, Integrated classes, reflective method, preparation of Specific Learning objective etc.

 

After the session on the second day, Dr E S J Prabhukiran, Principal, gave the concluding remarks of the two day program. He specified the importance of implementing various teaching strategies to ensure that the institutional curricular plan & its delivery are aligned to & in accordance to the principles & requirements as per NCH regulations, which is a requirement for NAAC accreditation as well.

 

A token of appreciation & certificate was presented to the resource person by the Principal.

 

It was a unique experience for the faculty members to experience the various methods of teaching. A total of 34 faculty members attended the program.
