Objectives

  • To Sensitize, develop and promote research climate in the institution.
  • To ensure and protect the right, safety and wellbeing of human subject involved in a research project.
  • To improve the quality of research.
  • To provide public assurance and protection.
  • To develop expert nurse researchers, clinicians and team.
  • To initiate and increase dissemination of activities and quality of research. (high index, Scopus, etc.)
  • To increase extension activities.

Research Guidelines

Research Promotion

  • All the research proposals prepared by the staff or students shall be handed over to IRC for review before the action of the study.
  • The proposal once accepted is issued a unique IRC number, thereafter sent for ethical clearance.
  • The final report of sanctioned projects is compiled by the IRC.

Research culture

  • Organize training programs to promote research growth in the form of Seminars/ workshops/conferences.
  • Take up competitions as a part of promotion of research culture.
  • Organize ongoing CNE on research proposal, writing research updates.
  • Research related communications are open to staff and students through ircfmcon@fathermuller.in
  • Conduct need based training to staff/students both at Institutional and University level through CNE/ Workshops.
  • Observe the details of publications twice a year and collect all documents regarding publication of staff from departments.

Resource mobilization for research

  • The faculty members are encouraged to undertake funding projects.
  • Department projects are promoted by provision of facilities in terms of time, photocopies and clinical facilities.
  • Facilitate use of library and clinical setting to the candidates with ethical clearance.
  • The investigator submits the duly filled budget form to the research Department.
  • The compiled budget form along with a copy of the synopsis is submitted to the Father Muller Institutional Ethics Committee.

Research facilities

  • Provisions for library facilities including e-journals are made available for all the staff and students including 24hrs Wi-Fi facility.
  • The staff and students are permitted to use the well-equipped clinical and adopted Community centres of the Institution with written permission.

Publications and Awards

  • Publish minimum one article per year.
  • Follow IRC guidelines for paper /poster presentation and publication.
  • Motivate students to publish their research project.
  • Post graduate students are to submit their manuscript after IRC review to research committee after the completion of their duration of study.
  • The UG students are motivated to publish their undertaken projects.
  • The staffs are encouraged to write chapters in books and publish papers in hi- index journals. The manuscript is reviewed by IRC before publication.
  • The eligible faculty are encouraged to be a part of the editorial board within and outside the Institution. Once a elected member, he/she will submit the document to the research committee.
  • The staff/ students who receive awards/recognition from professional bodies/ agencies to be notified with document to the research committee and IQAC.

Institutional Review Committee(IRC)

Overview

Institution Review Committee is a unit of internal quality assurance cell of Father Muller College of Nursing established in 2017 for streamlining the conduct of research

Aim of the committee

To streamline the conduct of research, thereby to maintain a high quality of research work done in Father Muller College of Nursing.

Objectives

  • To scrutinize the UG, PG, staff and departmental research projects before submitting for ethical clearance.
  • To check the completed projects before they are being presented or published
  • To maintain the research review register.

The committee members

The committee shall have an executive committee consisting of the following members:

  • One chair person
  • One Secretary
  • Three members

Authority under which IEC is constituted

The IQAC of Father Muller College of Nursing in consultation with the Principal

Membership requirements

  • The duration of appointment is initially for a period of 2-3 years
  • At the end of 3 years, the committee is reconstituted, and the members will be replaced by the newly appointed members.
  • A member can tender resignation from the committee with proper reasons to do so.
  • All members should maintain absolute confidentiality of all discussions during the meeting.
  • Conflict of interest should be declared by members of the IRC.

Guidelines for Synopsis, Scientific Presentations (Oral/Poster), Scientific Publications, and Department projects

Synopsis:

  • The synopsis should be submitted in the prescribed application form to the IRC through email (ircfmcon@fathermuller.in).
  • The synopsis will be reviewed by two reviewers from IRC.
  • If any queries the clarification will be obtained from the investigator.
  • The final decision will be communicated by the chairperson through mail.
  • Each synopsis will be issued with IRC number following which the investigator will proceed for ethical clearance.

Scientific Presentations (Oral/Poster)

  • The presenter must submit the power point/poster presentation along with NOC format to the IRC mail (ircfmcon@fathermuller.in) one week prior to the actual presentation.
  • IRC chairperson will communicate the date of presentation to the presenter.
  • The decision on approval/modification will be communicated immediately after the presentation.

Scientific Publications

  • The author must submit the manuscript along with Publication review checklist and declaration form to the IRC mail (ircfmcon@fathermuller.in).
  • The manuscript will be reviewed by two reviewers from IRC.
  • Reviewers correction /modification will be mailed to the author.
  • The author will adapt the modifications suggested and resend the manuscript to IRC mail.
  • The final decision will be communicated by the chairperson through mail.

Authorship for UG projects

  • Authorship of UG projects completed by 2017 can be claimed by the guide as 1st author, in case the students are not interested to publish even after continuous motivation for a period of 6months from the time the project is submitted. This in turn will be based on the contribution of the authors.
  • Primary authorship for UG projects from 2018 onwards will be shared by students & the Course Completion Certificate will be issued to the students only after the subscription of the manuscript. Guides will be responsible for the same.

Department projects

  • The synopsis should be submitted in the prescribed application form to the IRC through email (ircfmcon@fathermuller.in).
  • The synopsis will be reviewed by two reviewers from IRC.
  • If any queries the clarification will be obtained from the investigator.
  • The final decision will be communicated by the chairperson through mail.
  • Each synopsis will be issued with IRC number following which the investigator will proceed for ethical clearance.
  • After completion of the departmental project, the investigator must present the study power point to the IRC and departmental members.
  • The IRC will approve the completion of the study to IQAC.

Quorum requirements

The minimum of 3 members are required to compose a quorum. All decisions should be taken in meetings and not by circulation of project proposals.
